Hi, I am fairly new to the HIFI forums as well as the technology side of things and I have a question to ask if you dont mind... I currently own a Sony GXS75 Mini Hifi system which has a total system output of 300W. The speakers that it came with handle 150 watts max at 6 ohms each, recently I added some old pioneer floor standing speakers to the setup which have a max output of 30watts at 8ohms each. In the near future I am planning on getting rid of the pioneer speakers as one has a blown speaker and purchasing some Sony SSMF550H Floor Standing Speakers which have a Max Power Handling of 150 watts and an Impendance of 8 ohms. My Question is will these speakers work if I add them to my Hifi System, as in will there be enough power to work? Will there be any notable difference in Sound Quality, will My HIFI system be louder. Your help would be much apprecited, thanks... ![]() My current Hifi System (Sony GXS75): ![]() The Speakers I would like to add to my HIFI system: ![]() [Beitrag von MetalDave am 26. Dear Dave, The term System Power can be very misleading on the links which you gave there was no mention of RMS rating....a more accurate way of discribing the power capabilities of your system Will your system sound louder....I cannot tell as information like SPL is not available. But I guess it will sound more fuller & richer....that should answer your question about Sound Quality Will they be enough power..yes....though if your are spending that kind of money & could dispose or buy another piece of audio equipment....an integrated amplifier is what would be recommended. Regards, Junia. |

I found the RMS info in my owners manual. Continuous RMS power output (reference): 150+150 Watts (6 ohms at 1kHz, 10 percent THD) Total Harmonic Distortion less then 0.09 percent (6ohms at 1kHz, 70Watts) |

Dear Dave, Something does not feel right is it 150 + 150 Watts RMS for sure ? Normally to produce such a high RMS output a lot more has to go in a piece of equipment as what I can see in the Sony. Though I might be completly wrong on this. If you are sure aout the rating then there are no problems, go for the extra speakers !! Regards, Junia |

Main Unit Info as written in the manual... Specifications Main Unit (HCD - GSX75) Amplifier Section MHC - GSX75 For the U.S MODEL Audio Power Specifications Power Output and Total Harmonic Distortion: With 6 ohm loads, both channels driven, from 120 - 10,000 Hz; rated 150 watts (For GSX75)per channel minimum RMS power, with no more 10 percent total harmonic distortion from 250 milliwatts to rated ouput. Also what I wrote before "150+150watts" is what it says in the manual, so im guessing that the info is correct. [Beitrag von MetalDave am 26. Jun 2005, 15:04 bearbeitet] |
