Help - Marantz PM-57 trouble!

Hi,

My Marantz PM-57 has given my trouble-free service since 1996. This week it has started 'blanking' - switching off the selected input(sometimes with a small 'pop' noise) and then switching back after a short time. It does this regardless of input. Power supply seems OK as all lights stay on. It is as though I have switched the source.

Any ideas of what causes this, if it can be fixed easily?

All help appreciated.

I check all the speaker wire etc. to ensure no shorts (I run cabletalk 3.2 biwire in banana plus in + 1 passive sub on the same cable to speaker set 2).

the relays in your source selection section may be faulty or the relay controller could be faulty...or maybe its just needs a good service.

check your remote control, maybe it sends faulty signals.

It may be the relays or controller. It can't be the remote.

I opened it up to check for dust - anything obviously loose but all seemed OK and still doing it.

Any idea if this is fixable or terminal?

It may be fixable but you may need to take it to the Marantz service centre to diagnose the problem correctly..

manek is right. you should not try to repair it by yourself! at first you need to know hat exactly is damaged.

yeah....just a lookover and then if reapirs are too costly...check out some brand new stuff....a relay problem is easily sorted out at an authorised service station.
