he he. can just see the pride shining through... envy you. one small suggestion though.. the nad looks like its placed on a cd player. the weight might affect it? considering cd players are all fragile and susceptible to all sorts of external influences. wanna think about keeping them side by side. are you in bangalore by the way? |

those are full range monitors..shold sound good if placed on solid stands ! Would not be surprised if they sound better than your wharfies after an upgraded Crossover... regarding the amp, would suggeest you place it directly on the floor than on the CDP. you should get tighter bass that way. |

heard the murphy's with the Nad and made a direct comparison with the diamonds. clearly the diamonds are better and by a light year. the bass driver of the left channel murphy is gone. it is making some kind of farting sound. junia ur thoughts on my idea to convert this into a subwoofer or a full range loudspeaker with two 8 inch drivers inside the cabinet and the midrange and tweeter outside on top of the cabinet(like the ones in KEF reference and many others).or go for a complete setup inside the box itself. i'm open to incorporating a ported box. i'm sure with an upgraded crossover they would sound excellent. will start designing one after the 24th. the stands u see for the surrounds were the original stands of the murphy(they were bought with the speakers). yes both the speakers and the stands are made of teak. the Nad is not placed on a cdp. if u look closer it is actually placed on a VCR. the cdp/DVD player is placed on the yamaha. will be shifting places of the H/K and the Nad as i feel during a movie the sound from the center speaker may affect with the playback of the H/K. Thanks for all the nice comments. those Murphies were the first stereo system in all of Hassan(along with a Akai cassete deck).my dad swiped it from his 4 brothers more than 24 years ago. |

hey steiveboy, yes, i live in Benda kaluuru(Bangalore). do u too? where's ur pad? Mine's in basaveshwaranagar(whew!). actually i'm sure if i can only replce the baffle and the bass and midrange and of course replace the crossover the murphy will give the diamonds a good run for the money. Benks guys any thoughts on helping my murphy gain back its lost glory are most welcome. |

hey guys, was listening to the murphy with them on their stands. tehy sounded pretty good actuallly. i paired them up with the yamaha. the thing is though the bass is tighter and a bit louder the baffle is loose and this makes a horribly audible farting noise(the baffle vibrating and hitting the box). u see the baffle is not pasted or glued on like the new speaklers we see everyday. the baffle is screwed on to the box. maybe if i can make a new baffle or try to remove those vibrations by putting a damping material between the baffle and the box it would become better. the murphy also has two knobs in the back thru which u can control bass and treble. this is facilitated by making use of two 20 ohm pots in the crossover network. because of the glass wool(which is in a very large amount) present in the box, i am hesitaing to open it again without proper protection(gloves, keep it outside the house, goggles and mask for my face and fully clothed). i'm sure it will sound much better when i can redesign the crossover. BTW the drivers are of japanese make . in fact they are made by Onkyo(Hokutone). the bass driver is rated for 10 w rms!. Benks |

Benks you don't need to wear so much of protective clothing...I used to roll glass wool over the mufflers for my RD with a plain cloth, but be very careful and wear a protective cover for your eyes. |

hey Prithvi, i know about the glass table and the carpet. but i told u about the asthma problem both me and my dad have. he will not allow me to plop a carpet no matter what. regrading the glass table. i can't make it disappear(if i try to do so, my parents will make ME disappear from the house. they have put up with quite a lot already ). maybe i'll throw a cloth on it or something to dampen thigns out. Benks BTW did u see the Nad connectors. they are not sitting perfectly straight but a bit inclined outwards. |

yes try putting a table cloth on the glass table and a light rug on the floor whenever u listen to music. re: jumpers, no problem its ok. just try bending the cables a little and they will straighten out. dont worry ur rca jacks wont get spoilt. rgds prithvi PS: will not be in town for 3 days off to cochin for a hi-end instal. |
