Hi there. I am looking for a decent quality amp for up to £150, yes i know this seems a very low budget but its more a temporary thing until I can afford better (I am only 15). I really dont have a clue about all thsi, I would like an amp from a reputable manufacturer, doesnt have to be able to go too load, and must be of decent qquality and look the part. The main usage will be to plug in an mp3 player (creative zen), as for speakers I am not sure yet (probably wharfedale). Any help/reccommendations/links to reviews etc would be much appreciated, thanks a olot in advance

Hello gplatt2000,
you could try NAD, they once had a very good amp for starters. But I don't know if they still produce it.
If its a temporary thing maybe you should look for a used one, too? You might get a NAD C320BEE for about £200 (new: $350).

Other possible amps: Marantz PM4400B (~£150), Sony TAFE370S (~£100), Denon PMA255 (~£120)

nad really makes good amps. dont know 320bee but i havent heard anything bad about nad. but you shouldnt spend too less, a good amp has its price. $200 is the absolute minimum to spend.

Hello,

I guess my suggestion for the Sony amp wasn't that "good".
Gplatt2000, I would take the Marantz or NAD 320Bee

OK people,. thanks a lot for your replies. And I absolutelyagree with what you say about not spending too little, which is why I was just wondering if it is possible to get a decent one for about £150. I am only still considering gradually building up a decent system, but am a bit ashort atm. again, thans a lot for all your great helkp, much appreciated. cheers once moer, cya

Hi gplatt!
So take the marantz if you are really short or take nad 320bee. These two should be ok if you want to gradually build up your system. In my eyes, if one builds the system up like this when he's finished he'll begin again with the amp. So you don't have to spend that much noe.

the nad 320bee has a good pre-map circuit so later on you can use it as a good pre amp along with a power amp combo

I would choose a second hand Marantz 2238 Reciever...should be possibe to get one for 150$.
Why?
Sounds really good (beats nearly every new one up to 500-600$,
more than enough Power, great and longlasting Quality, Looks great...and a very good Tuner is included

Hi Wraethu! That could be a great idea buying an older amp. If they are better than the new stuff and they don't have a so high price than the newer ones that's a really good idea.
So 'im gonna look to hear one.

if you buy a good cd-player with output control you wont need a preamp too. but when buying an amp for about $200 you should buy a normal amp, i dont know any really good poweramp at about $200.

try for an older 504 onkyo Integra....its really something...but its got bad binding posts...you only have the option of shoving bare wire into it.
