opinions on wharfedale diamond series

You got to hear both the diamond 8 and 9's and decide.

On my front they are extremely value for money speakers, perform beyond their price range, decent build quality, will last you a few years. Kind of like a present day maruti 800. Staple diet of the entry level audiophile.

On the sound, their bass is a bit muddy to my tastes, others find it good. They by no means lack bass as suggested earlier but that is only my opinion with the music I listen to.

There is more good than bad associated with the whardale line for their price.

I too find the Diamonds really good. They may not have the classy build of a higher-end. But can compete on the sound with speakers priced much higher.
Fantastic detailing, refinity in music. Good Mid-ranges.

I like their 8.2 the best followed by 8.4. If you have a small listening room it might be ideal to go for 8.2 with a set of stands.

Waiting to hear the Diamond 9 series before putting my money on them.

check out the reviews for the diamond 8.4 . yes the first one is by me. one other thing. the 8.4 really does go down to the 30 hz specification while the sono2605 plays only till 45hz.

Are you based in Mumbai? Folks in Bangalore still haven't been able to review the Diamond 9s since the local dealer hasn't got his stock.

I noticed that the Diamond 9.4 was missing from the price list. Is it not available?

I felt that it was the closest equivalent to the 8.3.

If you have heard the 9s, please share your thoughts about them.

no i haven't heard them and hey i am in bangalore too. i came to know the prices after contacting dillip shah after i bought my diamond8.4s and was looking for surrounds at the time and thought maybe i could use the 9.1s instead of the 8.1s.
he said that these were the only models they are getting for India.
i actually paid 40k for the yamaha rx-v450 and the 8.4s.
what is the total sound chap(masood) quoting for the 8.4s now? any of u guys know.

thanks for the feedback. yes benkenobi had gone through the site you mentioned while searching through google for reviews on wharfedale. had heard the 9.1s and 9.5s yesterday so wanted some opinions, hence the post. here's my take on them. incidentally i was strongly against wharfedale cos they seemed like some cheapo budget speakers and just to listen to everything and not leave any brand out i went for an audition.

the 9.1s sound really good. they were quite fresh out of the box some 4 days but even then you could make out the characteristics of the sound. bass was slightly muddy but am guessing its ok enough. probably the newness. the only negative is that they lack that slight bite. little too laidback i felt. lovely soundstage decently deep felt like loading more cds to listen to. easy on the ears could imagine turning the lights low and settling down for a nice listening session. they sounded better than the 9.5s. the 9.5s had more bass but then thats not necessarily a good thing i found. i preferred the 9.1s.

almangy the wait will be worth it. the only thing is that the stands are some 9 k which kinda make the whole set little expensive. i was quite surprised by the price 13k for the speakers. sound amazing at that price level and certainly a little bit beyond too!

Total Sound is run by Anand now. His number is given in another of threads. He still doesn't have the 9s though he had the 8.4 for around 24K.

i know Anand. then i think Masood must be looking after his new showroom in Jayanagar(i think that's what he said).
24k is high. i paid only 20.5k for mine.
i would try the other dealer(Plus something) or shoot off a query to soundnvision(hyd).
