how much does the speaker stands effect/affect the quality of music?
How is a Solid metal, sand filled, spikes mounted stands different from elegant looking Glass stands (sound qualitywise)?
what are the recommendations?

Hi,
Dont skimp on stands. Stands do make a respectable difference simply because you can optimise the position of the speakers vis a vis the room. Small speakers especially benefit from correct location. For many years I used my stands without filling them up with sand. Couple of years ago I loaded them with sand, and yes clearly there was an improvement in the sound. The bass got firmer and more authoritative so to say. I use Target stands and they work fine by me. The other mainstream brand available here is Appollo I gather. Dont know about glass stands, even if sand filled. Would not glass resonate? I wonder. Check TNT audio for some ideas on DIY stands if you dont want to spend too much.

I would appreciate advise from anyone on fixing the speaker to the plate with an adhesive. Double sided tape mars the finish of the speaker if you have to remove it sometime. Is there some non discolouring stuff I can use. I have heard of Blue Tack but dont know what it is? Is it a kind of chewing gum or plasticine? Where could I get it.

Blu Tack is like a plastercine. Its blue ( sorry for stating the Obvious ) and its Freely available atleast my side of Bombay. Ask at stationary stores. Its about Rs 100 for a packet... yes, the origina - imported stuff.

If you can get it, pm me, and I will send U.

Blu Tack hardens when its left in place for months. I am not SURE if it stains, long term or not.

But yes, Blu Tack is the better option for speker mounting.

Glass is a acoustically hard material, and resonates.

Many consider Glass a Complete Phoo-Phoo for ANYthing audiophile.

Pexiglass is considered not audiophile appropriate, even though Glass looks better, etc etc.

Yes there are Turntables with Glass platters, but many consider these a mistake.

Sorry, no experience with Glass speaker stands, but extrapolating......

So Metal Speaker Stands filled with sand is a good option, right? (or is wood better?)
How do you fix the speaker to the stand? I thought you use screws. Whats the Blue Tack adhesive story?!!

Hi Guys,

BIG BOO BOO in my old post.

The correct post should be :

Pexiglass is considered MORE audiophile appropriate, even though Glass looks better, etc etc.

I have used double side adhesive cloth tape without causing damage to wood veneer, no stain or hard to remove glu after removal of the tape. This tape is used in printing industry to fix nylocast, blanket etc to printer drums, it looks and is similar to old type of surgical plaster, but with better adhesive on both sides, comes in different width with one side stuck to transparent polyester film.
