DVD soundtracks too soft!

I use a computer as a source.
Whenever I play any DVD soundtrack, the volume level drops to a third or a fourth of normal CD or MP3 playback.

An example: When I play the Enya 'May it be' song that accompanies the ending titles of the Lord of the Rings I DVD, I can barely hear it even at full vol. (I play using Power DVD 5). If I switched to Winamp without lowering the vol, my ears would have flown out the window. Why is the vol so low in Power DVD or on DVDs?

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Or are DVDs always mastered with low vol (with no normalization applied)?

I have no such problems with Power DVD.
Tried with many DVDS to check for the problem that u have mentioned, no luck.

I think that you better check if the equalizer is turned on in Winamp.
check the preamp level on Winamp.
also, check the device level settings by going to
start menu>accesories>entertainment>volume control.

Sachi,
I will try tomorrow with Win DVD. But as far as I know the problem is with the vol level on DVDs. I am surprised that you have not encountered the same thing. The MP3 vol level is not boosted through equalization. It is the natural vol.

i have found that this problem happens in some pirated dvds. try original dvds. as for lord of the rings, go to the setup menu and change to 2 channel mode, if you have a 2 or 2.1 setup.

I'll try the 2-ch mode as I have 2 speakers. I was DD 5.1 earlier as I thought it would sound better.

hey man the main reason for such drop is that there is a setting in the audio setup in Pow DVD where the setting by default will be in "quiet" mode... and you have to switch it to "noisy environment" then it will be enough loud to fetch to the amp...

I had the same problem but i fixed it..

cheers,
