When the DVD-A and SACD formats were new, I had taken to Both of them, with Great enthusiasm. I bought what even ( Non Classical ) music I could lay my hands on here, in India. Incidentally, SACD prices were good @ approx Rs 400 each, but DVD-A was Rs 800 to Rs 900. Very little DVD-A content. I picked up a Cheskey Sampler, to get a taste. Later I got the latest Fleetwood Mac album on DVD-A and was THRILLED to have one of my Fav groups in this esoteric format. Playback was a ( then Very Well rated, but a bit lean sounding ) Denon 2900 Universal Player, which I still use. I bought the Denon - 2900 for Rs 47,500 ( then) from the grey market, after an in house, 2 day demo. I don’t have the same music on DVD-A and SACD, so I cant take sides on that debate. However, to my ears, SACD sounds more relaxed, and easy flowing …. The DVD-A sounds more like a regular CD, than an SACD. ![]() However, ALL ( ? ) DVD-A content is on DVD-A only, while SACD is usually on Hybrid Disks. What this means is that I can listen to the Hybrid SACDs in my car, and also transfer their content to my iPod. That helps me familiarise my self with the music in the car, or while reading in bed. No such luck with DVD-A ![]() Given the high price and thae convenience limitation, I would refrain from buying future DVD-As… ![]() |
