WANTED: 3.5m speaker cables

I am on the lookout for around 3-and-half metre pair of speaker cables for my setup (listed in my profile).

[My new SACD player has very articulate bass and the old cables can't seem to deliver. There is a sense of preponderance of high-end, not much body in the mid-range and of lack of definition in the low-end. Yes, it could be the system itself to a large extent but I am looking for a (modestly priced) cable to give it a more transparent, full-bodied sound -- is high-bandwidth a good way to describe it?]

My budget is extremely modest (aka "cheap") so I would be looking for cables around the Rs. 10k mark (give or take a few grand if worthy). Must be terminated with bananas or spades.

So far I've been very kindly offered a Kimber Kable 4TC (factory banana plugs terminated in NYC) for around this price. I was wondering what my other options are.

Your offers and advice welcomed.

Hello,

I have a pair of 3.2m Solitone Model X Speaker cables. They are factory terminated with Bananas on one end and spades on the other. They are non-directional and can hence be used in any direction.

These are very highly regarded and reviewed cables. Had them for a little over a year but haven't used them in about 5 months as I changed my entire configuration. They are in mint 'as new' condition.

Purchase completed thanks to msb1 who was extremely helpful, super efficient and sent the cables to me with impeccable packaging.

Enjoying the warm sound of the Solitone Model X -- which in all honesty is way too good for my system

(P.S. Wondering if I should also replace the blanking plates on the speakers with a very short run of speaker cable. Anyone have 1 foot of high quality speaker cable they wouldn't mind parting with?)

Thanks, am glad you liked them.

Can you clarify what you mean by removing the blanking plates? What exactly are you trying to replace with speaker cable?

I have, most likely, used incorrect terminology. I mean the (cheap?) brass plate that connects HF to LF on low-end speakers like mine. I have heard it mentioned that replacing this plate with a short run of good cable should help the high end a bit.

I understand that there are ready made options (

like this) but I thought this approach would be cheaper especially as I have banana plugs lying around.

Ok. What you want re jumpers. These are available ready made from many company's or you can simply buy a small length of high quality speaker cable.
Check on audiogon.com or ebay.com for 'jumper'

Thank you! I was wondering what they are called.

Will hunt for jumpers utilising neutral sounding cable (as much as possible).

Since you have bannana plugs take a piece of you old cables and try em out if you can. They surely would be a shade better than the plates ?

Btw which sacd player did you buy ?

Thanks, Manek. I was given a short run of VDH Skyline Hybrid for this very purpose by a friend. However after upgrading to Solitone I thought I ought to match it with something equally good. But you are right, anything should be better.

i would not think you really need to match the tonality for a jumper cable...any Good cable should be good enouh, especially the VDF.

I too found the solitones to be really good although in my setup with the speaker cable and IC i lost some of the dynamics so kept only one of them. what really hit me was the soundstage which went back and wide

Thanks, I got it from Grattan Vaz at Boomarang Audio in Juhu. I think I paid around 97k for it. I may have mentioned in another thread but we did an A/B with an Accuphase player and it put up a good fight (lost out on high-end resolution but can you blame a player that costs only a quarter of the Accuphase?)
