Hi,
A friend is looking to buy a budget preamp. Used in perfect condition would be ideal. Any available?

Viren offers a (New) Valve Pre amp for Rs 15K ( I Think ... Viren, is that correct ? )

I heard one, and liked its sound quality, at that price... VERY Good Value.

If you are looking for a budget amp i would second Amp_nut by recommending Virens pre. have only heard good stuff about it and most people seem to be using it with much higher priced gear..so definitely VFM.

yes, it is good. In fact with little modifications, viren's preamp can take you to a level where you wouldnt know what your are missing till you hear something better..nice

BTW, viren a question for you..if the modifications really are good, would you be planning on changing anything to the stock preamp itself ?

Hi,

If I understand properly, the new Lyrita preamp already has the modifications undertaken by "reignofchaos" in it.

Major changes from the earlier version are - a switch to the 5687 valve in the line stage, 5751 valves in the phono stage, 5Z4G as the rectifier. The RIAA equalization in the phono stage has been revised. Resistors used are Kiwame, coupling capacitors are Russian paper-in-oil. The power supply caps use paper-in-oil bypass caps.

In all, I would say its a new preamp!

Another Option is from Advance Acoustic.

They have a range of SUPERB VFM products.

It is well built, sounds CERY nice, with Metal Remote, and Phono stage .. for Rs 25,000 from Nova.

They also have an Integrated amp with Remote for Rs 25K.

Incidebntally, they also have a Very Impressive looking DAC

for about Rs 35K. It even upsamples to 386 KHz !

Hi

I use virens older preamp with 6sn7 and ez80 as rectifier.
I had mine modded with the new paper in oil caps mentioned and there definately is a good improvement. They take a while to open up.
