The Dominic Miller Band or how my Cup of Joy runneth over

One of the positive aspects of this sudden explosion of culture mania ( The Kala Ghoda Festival) are these completely unexpected treats.

Yesterday,I was doing my usual morning 10 second rapid scan of the TOI,BT,MM, which is when I stumbled upon the fact that the Dominic Miller band was going to be performing at Azad Maidan.

The evening began with a set by The Druv Ghanekar band.Here is a musician to watch out for.
His music is experimentative and is very,very good.I hope he releases an album soon.

The evening ofcourse belonged to Dominic Miller and his band.Dominic, unfortunately is better known as Sting's guitar player, it perhaps overshadows,the fact that he is an outstanding musician in his own right.

The set was entirely accoustic and included versions of Fragile and The shape of my heart.The sst also included a couple of songs by Aadesh Srivastava, that's right he of disco dandia fame.Even that was interesting.

What can I say, the feeling was one of epiphany.To see such outstanding musicians, at such close quarters, that to for free, what more can one ask for ?

My only grudge, if at all I'm allowed to have one, is that such concerts should have a minimum charge which will ensure that only those that are seriously interested will take the trouble to attend.

The audience yesterday comprised of street urchins, noisy news anchors, random biharis/bhaiyas wanting to ogle at the women and gawk at the musicians.

Anyway, of those who are interested, Rabbi and Indian ocean are playing on Saturday followed by Madhav Chari and Ranjit Barot on Sunday.
