For me it used to be Hifi and Books (At least 2 books a week! that too 1 shot reading to the extent possible)

These days have rather taken to Photography..with a focus towards the Architectural scene

Buddy Arj,
Your 5th option is too generic to ignore hence have voted for it. BTW, music is my only hobby currently but I havent sold my soul to it...a married guy cant

Dear ARJ (Always Running Jack - so says your avatar) !

I have really been very influenced by a saying:

"Jack of all trades and master of ONE" !!

I'm quite a jack of:

- HiFi & Music
- Photography (Landscape & nature)
- Computers (website, home wifi, a bit of programming, etc.)
- Reading (mostly technical stuff - being a slow reader and actually averse to reading - I was surprised to this hobby of mine)
- Travel (I like mountains & I love to drive through myself)

When it comes to that ONE:

- That's my profession - I'm an eye surgeon and heading a premier eye hospital in New Delhi

It's a nice thread that you have started. Will give us an opportunity to know more about each other.

Regards

Sanjay

Drji, a jack of many is always more interesting personality than a master of one..
Travel/computers are things I enjoy but they wll never come into my hobby space. both are quite a part and parcel of my "One" as you put it

Since u have an "eye" for beauty, whats ur photo equipment like ?
i have a Olympus E 500 with a 14-45 and 40 to 200...and i prefer architectural shooting

Hi ARJ !

My photo equipment is exhaustive enough for me to qualify as serious enthusiast. Over the years I have build Nikon gear. (I sent you PM)

I also like architecture but more as part of landscape & nature.

If i am any time able to make it to a Delhi Audiophile meeting, a photography tip sharing with you is also in order

Arj Buddy,
This time your list looks much more balanced
Since I had already voted before you made the change hence I would have to give a manual preference, I vote for Option No '1' whole-heartedly .

Hi,

Life is too multifarious to be classified into a few concrete terms!

However, for me, audio has always been an overriding interest. An interest that has now grown into a small business. A business that is run purely for the enjoyment of it, with one eye on commercial concerns, of course!

Music has always been the prime interest. And I've been fortunate to have lived through a lot of it - be it Western Classical, Indian Classical, Blues, Jazz, Folk, and other myriad forms. It was that wish to bring some of the live music into my home that got me going on this quest of audio.

But, as you younger guys who multitask so easily will understand, life runs in many parallel threads. Intellectual pursuits are many, music being one. Reading, of course, takes the prime spot - again, in varied topics of interest. The creative urge was satisfied in taking up black-and-white photography, developing and printing my own.

And here is another analogy to audio. In photography, it matters not what equipment you have - the ultimate composition is in the eye and mind of the beholder. Similarly, in audio, it matters not what equipment you have, your enjoyment of music is dependent more on your expectations and mood at the moment.

Seize those moments!

Viren.

Good morning,
In my life Hifi is a pleasantful and important part, but not the only one. Reading, meeting friends, cycling, computer... .
Because of this mixture I can't spend "so much" money for Hifi, but I'm comfortable with my components.
So, I have to go to work, sorry for my english and have a nice day

Dear Arj,

Regarding the options in this poll, I would like to add another option:

"I have a life - and my hobbies make my life complete" !

Hi,

My hobbies are plenty and they keep changing depending on my mood, need & interest. So i never call them my hobby but interest. According to me an interest becomes a hobby when u are serious about that interest and practise it whenever possible.

When i was a kid it was mainly TV & reading comics. Then at a latter stage when i came in contact with the church library my interest got into reading books especially thriller & suspense. also included were books on nature and animals for which used the National Geographic magazines.

During my school days, my interest in music and movies grew. Hindi music was never interested me much till the past couple years. My interest in western music and movies grew immensly during my schooling days as i had a small friend circle who used to listen to them and i was really influenced by it. It was then when i came to know about Dolby systems and terms like surround sound & DTS.

During my ITI days my interest in Computers, singing and musical instruments (especially Guitar) grew. During that time i would say i became so obsessed that i went ahead and bought the computer and always used work on it when ever i was free. It included playing FPS & RTS games and programming with Visual Basic and C++.

My mother gifted me a guitar on my 20th birthday. which took my interest in music a step further and i came to know about timing, notes, synchronization while singing etc....

Then i started working and my interests took a low side (not very much, but a little).

After i came to know about this forum my musical instincts have been stirred. And after investing in Sonus and marantz i have really started enjoying it again. Computers? i still have to get repaired. its broken.

thats it i guess u guys have not gone asleep.

There was a man who made a living selling balloons at a fair. He had all colours of balloons, including red, yellow, blue, and green. Whenever business was slow, he would release a helium-filled balloon into the air and when the children saw it go up, they all wanted to buy one. They would come up to him to buy a balloon, and his sales would go up again. One day a little boy who asked, “If you release a black balloon, would that also fly?” Moved by the boy’s concern, the man replied with empathy, “Son, it is not the color of the balloon, it is what is inside that makes it go up. (Source courtesy – Mr. Shiv Khera)

Radio was my source of energy. Now it is hi-fi music. What next???

My hobbies other than hi-fi are Short wave radio listening, amateur radio operation, reading books (philosophy), and expedition.
