A meeting while the AV Expo is going on... sounds great. I think all us can meet at the expo itself.

Hello !

We could meet at the Ashoka Hotel.
But, I hate the place.
Location is excellent, but the Hotel is crap.

I would rather meet fellow forum members in the night for Drinks & Dinner.

Actually, we could meet at some members place, audition his set up & then go out fr dinner & drinks.

Most of the commercial members will be there in ND to attend the show, some persons like will also be there, so all in all we can make a small get together.

I am open to ideas and suggestions.

My Hotel is in GK1. I may have a car in ND, not sure.

So let us make a plan & meet up & take it forward.

Dear Bhagwan,

Some of us (at least 4) are meeting tomorrow. One of the agenda is to plan for future meetings or other activities. We will certainly plan for a common meeting during at Times AV Show.

The best option would be to meet at the venue of the show i.e at Hotel Ashok on Saturday 2 September in the afternoon at about 2 pm or in the evening say 8 pm.

Let us plan it online. I will start another thread.

Yes that will be a great idea.

Looks like the number for Delhi meet is increasing. People outside this forum are also showing interest in such meetings & discussions.

The number for the Delhi meet has already increased from 4 to 6 now.

We finally met today at Viren's place ! Just 4 of us but a good interaction nonetheless:

1. Viren
2. Sunilyo
3. Ajit (Sunil's friend)
4. SDhawan

Panditr could not make it and Anirvan was out of town.

This is how the meeting went:

Begining with Orange juice we all intriduced ourselves. Then Viren talked about Music & the role of HiFi in enjoying the pleasure of music. How he transformed from a Chemical Engineer to first a audio enthusiast and then an expert. How from making DIY speaker to solid state to valve - the evolution story.

Then we auditioned (rather heard & enjoyed) Viren's music setup which consisted of:
1. Marantz CD-5001 CD Player
2. Lyrita Valve Pre-amp
3. Lyrita Valve Mono-block power amps
4. Lyrita Single Driver Full Range Floorstanding Speaker (which really stand mighty 5 feet tall and volumes of sound).

We were all entralled to a state of ecstacy. We heard jazz, classicale, pop, rock and hindi film music. The system excelled in every department. And considering the price I think it's a steal. I strongly recommend Viren's system to all the new comers on budget (even to those for whom budget is no bar).

I shared my expereinces from the days when I was small child glued to my Murphy radio (valve based) to when I bought indigenous Dalmia system, Sonodyne and now to my present equipment. I brought along two books by Robert Harley - The Complete Guide to High End Audio and Home Theatre for Everyone. Very well written and highly informative books by the editor of The Absolute Sound & The Perfect Vision magazines.

Sunil talked about how he is actually initiating himself into this passion and how HiFi Forum has been of immense help (a raod that we have all travelled). Ajit too is begining the enjoy music in a new way.

We planned that during the AV Expo 2006 all the interested audiophiles could meet at Viren's place over a contributory dinner. A good day would be Saturday 2 September at about 8:00 pm.

We dispersed with a promise to meet again regularly and preferrably in a bigger group.

So guys - the show must go on !!!!

Just to add my bit of experience of our meet.

The meet as the doc said was really informative. It was fun listening to various genres of music under the same roof. i really enjoyed to music like Jazz & classical which i personally have never listened to (or never wanted to listen... till now).

The setup produced good amount of detail. regarding terms like soundstaging and imaging i still have understand them

Mr. Viren, yes he is a real gentleman and for a newbie like me it was a real pleasure and honour to meet him. We (me and my friend Ajit) came around half an hour earlier to doc (as it was my first visit to his place and i did not wanted to waste time in searching the address and be late for the meet). During that time he gave us a brief idea of what listening to music should be like and that a person should enjoy it rather than delving into the details of music. And no matter what system you have you should be able to enjoy it with an open and free mind.

I was pretty amazed by the kind of sound reproduced by his giant single-driver towers (i think they were more than 5 feet tall, around 6 feet). Especially i was amazed by the bass reproduction. I couldn't believe that a single 6 1/2 inch driver could produce the low level details so finely. It is then Mr. Viren said that its the speakers design which is doing it.

I also met doc. Hey doc you should update your picture because you look completly different in real life (i couldnt even recognize you on first glance.)

Then we also spoke about a little bit of cheap tweaks that we can do to our rooms and systems in order to get more from our systems. I liked Mr. Virens idea of putting up a half-inflated mini cycle tyretube below his marantz CDP to protect it from vibrations.

Lastly i thank doc for organizing such meet and Mr. Viren for inviting us to his place and making this meet a success. The number came down to 4 from 6 and neverthless the meet was an enjoying experience for us. And i hope that we and all other members of this forum can meet in the future.

I will be visiting the show Friday afternoon (Sat & Sun get too crowded). Viren is visiting Saturday morning.

It will be a good idea to meet at the venue and audition the equipment together. SMS or call me on my cell to coordinate.

It was really very very sad that we could not meet.
I was really looking forward to listening to some 'cracking set ups' in ND !!!!

The only good thing I got was a brilliant Single Malt - Glen ORD - 23 years old - distilled in 1973 to drink. What a brilliant evening that was !! Nice prawns to finish with [some place in Ansal Plaza] !!

I came on Thursday;
The set up started on Friday morning @ 0100 hours.

When I came back on Friday morning @ 1100 hours, the hall was a complete mess.
I left in disgust.

Came back on Saturday & on Sunday. It was a 'mela'
more like a 'kumb mela'
All the people in ND that had no work on Sunday had dropped by.
This was a full 'Video Show'
No Audio part was even there in part. Just static demo.

Luckily I had some 'friends' that I visited & got a chance to listen to 'little audio gear' so it was not so bad.
Dynaudio Contour 3.4 + Dynaudio Contour 5.4 + Sonus Faber Cremona Auditior + AG Uno + Martin Logan Prodigy etc.

Nice food [Prawns + Raan] + great drinks [Single Malts] + rocking night life [Kasbah + F-Lounge + some place in N Block Market - GK 1 {I forget the name} + Elevate]
This club in Noida is mad. I went in @ 0130 and left @ 0430 & it was 'packed' I had a great time !!!
I love ND. I also visited Amrita Shergil Marg & was
driven mad by it.

Saw wonderful cars [drove a couple] & the ladies in ND are from a different planet. The only saving grace of going to ND !!!

Show was a flop - trip was a success.
