Just saw on www.audioenz.co.nz forum that Peter Thompson of Plinius has left the company to pursue other ventures.

Peter was the person who founded Plinius and he sure did a good job.

Plinius just got a new distributor for India.

If I am not mistaken, Junia Suresh Alva was the older [previous] distributor in India. A lot of [well actually little] audio gear from Plinius was sold by him in India, the last being a CD player in Surat [my information may be wrong] about 3 months back.

In any case, The Sound Smitha - Mr. Viru - now looks after Plinius in India.
I would like to wish him & Mr. Gupta all the best with it !!

Plinius with Peter Thomson or Plinius without Peter Thompson ???

You know, Plinius without Peter Thompson may actually 'sound' better than it did with him around.
He is a great person [P.T.] but his amplifiers looked better than they sounded. Maybe now, they will sound as good as they look !!!!

Sonically, main aap se haan mein haan milata hun.
The only Plinius gear worth owing (IMHO) was the SA-250 Mk4 power amp. Even then, it had a warm sound to it & was a bit rolled of at the top end.
I know that Plinius likes to use only NPNs in the output stage for both source & sink. Plus, they admit that their amps are more source than sink.
I just wonder: if NPNs are used for source + sink, then the collector of the sink NPN must be connected to the output terminal, which must be raising the impedance some. It seems that the sink output impedance could be decreased by running more bias current (Rout = VA/Ic) but then source & sink are asymmetrical. I wonder if this was done or not?
I understand why they wanted to use only NPNs thru-out but I also wonder if this was the compromise in the Plinius sound.
Maybe they need yet another architecture for their power amps?
Anyway, here's hoping for even better sound from Plinius.
Hope they dump those rounded edge Plinius amps that look hideous & so HT!

Yes Plinius amps need a better look. They look too plain

esp their power amps with blue enamel paint at the back.

Hope Prithvi clours it black.

The Quasi Complimentary Output stage has been resurrected, lately.

Dar-Zeel, which is currently the 'flavour of the year' power amp also uses ONLY npn devices throughout the power amp.
