hi friends,
Iam in to seious listening for quite some time now. I started initially as music lover, casual listener, but soon became hifi HT enthusiast, although I watch movies my system is principally used for two channel music. and soon I found my self cursing for not having a satisfactory stereo setup. And I decided to up grade.
I am really puzzled where to start? a CDP,st.apm,or speakers.
My existing set up constitutes:
PIONEER DV355 : the source
DENON AVR 1602: the amp
B&W303'S(BS) : fronts
JBL PB12 : The sub.
MOSTER CABLE : Speaker cable , digital & ana.ICs.
I do have speakers;the floorstandersin my mind.
I usualy listen to light rock, pop, Indian classical,& Hindi film music. I love to listen to geunine orchestration too.

please guide me selecting a good pair of fl.standers.
I need really musical, mellow& neutral speakers. on which I am gonna build my system up!
IMPORTANTLY: my budget for the speakers is Rs.50000.maxstretched.
HELP ME LISTEN GOOD.

regards
Arj

for 50K would suggest you start with a good pair of Bookshelves ! (Anything going down to around 45hz is more than enough usually, unless you listed to Western Classical)

Maybe the cadence range would be a good place to start (There are too many options in speakers hence you will need to make up your mind)

YOu are starting correctly with the most important component ie the speakers..

You should then focus on the Amp to drive the speakers and then the CDP..

Magnepan MG 12 floorstanders are great for vocals. Note that they will not deliver boomy bass. Sound rolled off on lower frequencies. They need space both behind them and to their sides. So your room must be large - say 250 sq ft.

Audition the Quad 21L. Compare them with speakers costing twice. I own these speakers, and man, do they sound better everytime. For more bass, go for the Quad 22L.

For 50K I would put my money into the Cadence Arita, Quad 12L/21L, monitor audio Silver, Dynaudio 52(not with the denon avr).

I second Manek here for branded speakers. I have traveled the same road an year back. At this budget, stick to Bookshelf speakers if you are going branded. The floorstanders in the range won’t give you the musicality you are looking for unless you stretch your budget to around 75k.Any branded floorstander at this budget comes with too many compromises which robs them of coherent-musical sound. At around 75 k you can look at the dynaudio audience floor-standers, quad 22L etc…
If you really want floor-standers around 50k which gives high end sound, try the floor-standers made by made by Viren (lyrita audio) and Acoustic portrait in India. They can give you a taste of hi-end sound at entry level prices. Both are done by people who are quite passionate about music – serious hobbyists who know their stuff. I searched for almost an year and settled down with the MS 301 from Acoustic portrait. I have had the opportunity to conduct comparisons extensively in the same room with speakers costing about a lakh like Linn and Proac and I found these competing very favorably at around half the price. Try them out. You may like them.

I don't know whether getting a better pair of speakers within your current setup is going to be the answer.

Anyway, what I would do is to audition any of the brands recommended with your current amp and source.

Try going the otherway around - improve on your source, get a stereo amp and a good pair of speakers in stages.

Yes………the av-receiver and source is no good for stereo. A floor-stander within 50k (branded) would give you similar or even worse mids and highs than the B&W 303’s. And the bass is not going to be all that great too. So you will end up with a “Horizontal upgrade”. A bookshelf speaker at this budget will give you fantastic mids/highs and detailed bass although it won’t be very authoritative. Either way you will need to change your source and amp.

well u neeed to go with full spectrum audio. LIke it has to go with right from strong authoritative bass with liquid like highs and warm mids. I think you need to go with the 3 way speakers. With 10 inch min woofer.

cheers,

if you want to go with the hifi and audiophile like music just throw your av receiver aside and start to buy new amp and speakers.

just one question...

do you use the analogue output of the cdp for stereo music or do you use the internal DAC's of the AV reciever...???

The internal stereo DAC's of your recvr may give you a better sound......

manek.

Thanks guys for suggestions, I am already on the tract for Mon.aud. silver, Quad12L,21L.
I was also surprised for not seeing names like Mission, polk, and KEF.Any body can comment?
So also about PSBs.

I initially was using a digital output & DAC of my AVR but soon found that the sound was more authentic , the sound stage more precise with analog outputs.&switched back to them.

cheers...!
