Hello everybody! All of my musik eqyipment(stereo amplifier, vestax mixer, technics turntable, pc) is now standing in my cellar. and as we all know is it possible to have a very wet (high atmospheric humidity = Luftfeuchtigkeit) cellar. i know that it is not good for my equipment and it can couse high damage. Do you know the possible range of atmospheric humidity in my room? I heard an averrage stereo amplifier works well with 25 - 75%.......but i am not shure about it. I got an old Kenwood stereo amplifier (15 years old), veatax mixer and 2 technics turntables and i don´t wanna hurt my babies hehe.....can u help me, do u know something about this topic, or where i can find something? thanks for your time/effort, yours David |

Hello david, do you want to store your equiptment in your cellar or are you going to use it? Depending on your cellar, your humidity might be higher (pretty well, if you are a wine lover), but in a normal house, it might not be above 50%. Greetings from australia, Scott. note: "Luftfeuchtigkeit" sounds german, so if you are searching a german forum, you may try hifi-forum.de or just activate the german forums in settings. |

Hi David, I am living in Singapore and we have naturally a very high humidity (Luftfeuchtigkeit). Okay, most of the time when I listen to music or watch a movie I have the air-con running, which reduces the humidity, however, it won't drop below 50%. And you shouldn't have more in your cellar ... of course, this depends on were you live Regards Torsten |

First thanks for your request. Yes I am already using my musik equipment in my cellar and I already know that I got about 60& of atmoepheric humidity. Is it too high for my equipment or is it ok? (you said 50& won`t couse any damage...) greets from austria, David PS: I used the word "Luftfeuchtigkeit" becouse I am new in this forum and I have no idea about your english-knowledge. I had to look it up in a dictonary and I wasn´t shure you understand me. anyway, I am sorry! |

Hello, if you think our humidity is too high you might use a device to reduce it (there are some working with a kind of powder, they don't need any power-supply). I hope my english-knowlege is well, or what do you think what kind of lanuage we speak in Australia? |

Hi IZMINE, the humidity is dependend on the temperature! Warm air can adsorp much more water than cold air! Air of 0°C can maximum adsorp 4 g water pro m³ whereas air of 20°C can adsorp 20 g per m³(roughly) For example a room with 20°C and 75% humidity contains thus 15g water per m³. If you cool down this room suddenly to 0°C, 11g/m³ water would fall out! The values of the humidity is in this case not crucial! Not the quantity of water per m³ is vital important but the condence water that can be arise in rooms with big temerature differences and wet bottoms like cellar rooms. The condensation occurs when it's getting colder outside and the air temerature goes down (for example) from 15°C to 5°. As long there is no condensation- your walls are try- you can leave your equipment there. I would recomment to heat a little bit the room in cold therms. Möllie |
