Does anybody know how to clean the deposits that develop on speaker binding posts and also the interconnect terminals?

Try WD 40 or is it WD 30?

Hi Pranab,

Never knew that such things required cleaning. Are you saying that the wires and terminals are getting oxidised?

Yes, Neutral getting oxidised and the proximity to the sea is accelerating the process. I keep stripping the ends of the speaker wires when they begin to look real bad but haven't been able to clean the terminals.

I use Isopropyl alcohol called 2 Prapanol manufactured by Merck, Mumbai.

Hi Guys,

It's easier to clean speaker posts but I am finding it difficult to deal with dust deposits on the Lens of CDP & DVD players.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Doc,

If you're brave enough, open up the CDP and use a very soft squirrel hair paintbrush on the lens. Blow the dust off first though. Just be very very gentle!

Dear Shahrukh,

Thanks. That's exactly what I used to do with my old CDPs before they died out and refused to revive.

Anytime Doc. BTW, have you tried using a CD lens cleaner (the CD type). Never used one myself but you could give it a try. In principle, I guess it's the same as using a brush on the lens.

Hi! Shahrukh,
First clean the terminals with a clean cloth, then either use WD40 or a good electrical contact cleaner. IF you want the best then us CAIG LABS DEoxit for cleaning and then use their PRO-GOLD for 24K connectors.

North Indian dust is too rough to give in to the tiny little brush on the Cleaner CD.

I am still looking for a convincing method. Even after opening the CD Player what to use to clean the lens?

I fully agree with Prithvi about using DeOxit followed by ProGold since this is exactly what I do once every 3-6 months. The plus point is that with ProGold, the repetetive cleaning process is greatly reduced.

Hi Sanjay:

With regard to cleaning the CD optical lens unit, what I do is open the top cover of the CD player, eject the drawer of the CD tray and use a lint-free soft cloth to very gently wipe the optical lens.

Please take note that any fibres/strands (even a single one) will hinder tracking of the optical lens and hence should take extra caution that the piece of cloth is fibre free. Also ensure that you do this very gently & not touch the disc clamping mechanism etc.

You may visit a jewellery store, esp. ones that specialize in high quality diamonds and they have special cloth for cleaning and wiping diamonds. If you know the store, you can request them for one as this is what I did.

Hope this explaination helps.

Any idea where i can get Deoxit and pro-gold. Is it freely available or do i need to order over the net?
