Over the past several weeks I have been literally 'picking the brains' of members of this forum. The suggestions and tips offered were quite helpful especially for a neophyte like me! It was so gratifying to see the spontaneous response from several members of the forum. Thank you guys (girls?!).
Finally I managed to source the following:
1 Amplifier: NAD 352
2 CD player: SD 7300
3 Cassette Player: SD 4050
5 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7
6 Speaker cables: Van del Hul snowline hybrid
7 Interconnects: Vivanco
I will try and put 'em all together and keep you posted.
Thanks
Sam

Congrats Sam, that's a fine setup you got there.
Graduated from looking at buying a wharfedale diamond to Paradigm Monitors eh?
happy listening.

They were on sale and the sound was irresistable!

Hi Sammygeorge,
Did you pick up all that stuff in one go or was it over a period of time?
How is the amp? I have heard that it is better than even the 370.

And does it have Speaker A/B option? I have the 320 and find it very annoying that i cannot biamp my speaker. Also i do not have the flexibility to run the second pair to my sub. However an older MArantz amp that I have provides me with the option and i love experimenting with the sound.

Congrats Sammy. The AMP is AMAZING..luv it. Like I said in a reply to you post...replace the stock power cord if possible.

Ronnie, the NAD C 352 does not have A/B speaker connection. I own this amp for the past 6 months or so, and is fully broken-in now. It is a delight to listen to this amp. I have compared this to another "recommended" amp costing 3 times more - and this amp stands head-on. Absolutely best for the money you pay The only reason that many audiophiles don't take this amp seriously is because it does not have a bank-breaking price tag

Great………….all that matters is happiness.
The C352 is a fine amp. Both the C370 and C372 are poor performers compared to the C350 and 352 and 320bee. Good you made the right decision. How much did you pay for the paradigm speakers ?

I picked up the paradigm speakers in a sale and they cost me around 20,000 Indian Rupees. It was a steal and I consider myself lucky to have bagged it!! I was debating between NAD 320BEE and 352 and after several auditions, opted for the latter...they sounded much much better.

Squarewave, I guess the extra power gives it the edge over the 320 bee on the transients for better dynamic performance.
Which power cord did you replace the one on the NAD? My warranty on the NAD runs out next feb and I plan on making some mods. Are there any other mods that you attempted on your NAD?

ronnie, what are the mods you intend to do on the 320BEE ?

Hi Manek,

No plans about any mods yet but if someone "has been there and tried that" then would love to know his/her experiences. I have read in a few forums that changing the power cord makes a difference. What do you feel? I think you also have the 320 bee.

yep...power chord upgrade is a given
also to my cdp

but what after that ? The real stuff.....the stuff that would take this amp to the next level !

I'm told the balaqnce pot can be bypassed...how about some good capacitor changes ?

Siva, deaf, viren, junia and all others....care to elucidate us ?

for the 320.. the PSU Capacitors apparently give the biggest change followed by the change in Transformer to a Heftier one.
The next in line can be the rectifier diodes..

Bypassing the Pot might not be necessary as you already have a Power in for the NAD.. you could change the steel jumpers to Interconnects..

The pre part is the culprit in the 320BEE. Take the 'preout-to-main-in' lugs out, feed a signal straight off a CDP (provided the CDP has some sort of vol adj) & hear for yourself.

The 1st upgrade would be to replace the shorting lugs with a good set of ICs.

Cheers!

Ben

What ICs did you use to replace the lugs?

I just replaced the metal lugs of my teenage daughter's 320BEE with short pcs (0.2m) of vdH D102-III-HB a month back & its made a hell of a diff!!!

320 is a great value at Rs 10.5K, recently purchased in Dubai. Point is if the product retails at approx 10K, it should be costing the manufacturers something like 4-5K max. Well, guys, what more can be expected from this money?

There are three caps that you can upgrade

-> power supply (good quality Panasonic or blackgate, depending on value required)
-> pre/power amp section - electrolytic caps to blackgates (hurry up...the production of BG has stopped for a while now)
-> pre/power amp section - non-polar caps to something like Solen, Jensen, Hovland, etc.,

You could also try upgrading the resistors to Dale, mills, etc.,

I would recommend that one should identify the key components that are in the signal path and upgrade only these key components. Else it is going to be terribly expensive....

The problem is that ... we need to import almost all of these components. Instead of spending so much on upgrades....it might be worthwhile to upgrade your entire amp. If you take the amp upgrade path, You could also consider many DIY kits available...such as AKSA, Whitenoise, Pass Lab's DIY designs, etc.,

Note 1: If you want to upgrade components in your amp, make sure to get it done by expert electronics engineer...else you will end up smoking a few components on the board

Note 2: If you want to make an DIY amp, ensure that sufficient attention is given to the layout of the various modules and how you wire them up...this is very critical. Results from DIY electronics are far more skill sensistive than DIY loudspeaker.

Cheers
Siva.

i've done the jumpers many yrs ago with D102MkIII...makes a hellova diff.

going for the power chord swap anyways. Now looking for that one simple yet effective electronic part mod to start with.......

I'm going to have to find someone good to do it....maybe Khushroo jhilla/lakozy can help me with someone to carry this mod out since he is very familiar with the product...

All htis talk about modding the 320 got me excited.
so i took a look inside and here's what i found.

I took photos of only the power supply section.
i see that they are using 15000 micro farad per channel/rail ..i frankly think that the value is more than enough and if the capacitors arte inworking order there is no need to upgrade taht..
thouhg i agree that three would definitely be some gains with replacing the power cord.
Actually the thinner cord you see is the stock power cord and i am thiking of substituing that with the larger one that u see adjacent to it..
It is muchj better shielded and is rated at 14 amps.

Next is a pic of the heatsink and torroidal transformer..
I don't thiknk there would be any significant gains by replacing it with a bigger one.
they have given only partial shielding to the transformer...don't know how exactly that helps..
a fully shielded one would be a better way to go.

http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/5284/img00045rd.jpg

The speaker outputs are pretty cool.they are made of gold plated strips rather than wires..

i will certainly go for the power cable upgrade..looking at the stock cable, i think there is a genuine potential for improvement in the quality by doing for that..that stock cable hardly has any shielding..actually i don't think its shileded at all..will confirm this when i replace the cord.

Regards,
Benkenobi
