i can definitely help u with it..
tell me what u want..
like the kind of sound..
u want SPL or SQ or both..
u plan for a 5.1 Cinema surround sound system or not?
what type of car(model)?
finally ur budget?

the rockforsd and lightning audio are from the same stable but the rockford is the flagship brand...the LA caters to the more budget conscious..
The rockford fosgates are pretty popular in the states and competes primarily with Kicker,JBL,JL,Audio,Pioneer and Alpine..
while Kicker is known as the king of SPL(Jbl is a strong contender) Pioneer are known for their head units.
Alpine too has some very good head units(not to mention Blaupunkt,try the Los Angeles one)..they have their Type R series of subs that do pretty ewell in the audio circuit..

But for SQ there is nothing to beat a JL audio..
on the other hand u can also try Adire audio subs...they are wayy too cool and give u more than just cosmetics that we see a bit too much of in the world of car audio..

Rockford Fosgate got a lot of publicity because they used it in the FAst and The Furious and 2 fast 2 furious..

Benks, I have a used Pioneer CD player that can only do american frequencies i.e, 90.9 and 91.1MHz. Right now I am only able to use it for playing CD. Any idea if I can tweak the tuner to do even frequencies. Or do I need to replace my car CD player.

Finally, I have a local make fronts (Rs 600) that is overwhelmed by the sound from the rears. I am planning to remove the rear speakers for my Santro. Appreciate if you can help me get a decent setup.

i will have to check it out and let u know..
i too have a pioneer head unit(so do most of my friends) and have never encountered this problem..

What u can do is , remove the rears , then go for the JBL fronts(maybe 6 inch speakers ) and a single 10 inch sub(dual ciove coil) in the rear..
u will need an amp(prefereably a class D) to drive the sub..
additionally u may opt for another amp to run the front speakers...
to top it all off ...go for a seperate pair of tweeters or u can buy front component speakers that come with crossover networks.
There is a lot of things that we can work out..
i need to know ur budget and your priorities..

The Pioneer was salvaged from a car involved in an accident in the US. Hence the radio is tuned to N American frequencies. I am looking at an option of getting the turner replaced if you can point me to someone.

I want to disconnect the rear speaker and replace with normal speakers (may be under 2k). If it gets too expensive, I can as well get myself a personal MP3 player with FM tuner for about 4k here instead.

For 2 k all u will get is grey market sony and pioneer...
pioneer is the better of the two...
see if u can buy them in Korea..
