I am told that high quality CD players give a noticable difference in music. Can some one clarify that if we were to have a CD players with digital coaxial or digital output connected to a receiver, how would the quality of the CD player matter. Do you really have to spend a ton on CD player if you have a decent receiver like mid end models of Rotel, Arcam or NAD? |

If you have a budget receiver and use the digital out of the cd player, then spending a ton on a cd player does not make sense. I don’t think you will be able to make out much difference too. An entry level player from the companies you mentioned should suffice. |

What would be the recommendation if we have a $1000+ receiver? Examples are Arcom AVR 300 and Denon 3805 or Denon 4806. |

Try a Nad C542 or Arcam cd 73 or Marantz cd 6000 ose or even a Cambridge audio Azur C640. All these are decent players but each will sound slightly different. |

Thanks. Is there any such thing as one transport being better than another? I would like to use the 5.1 output from a digital coaxial player as an input to AVR. Will a dedicated CD player with decent DACs give me a better output? I am considering Arcam AVR 300 with Universal player. The connection between the player and receiver will be digital coaxial. |

IF u are planning to use the digital coaxil output then only the transport section of the player is utilised and the DAC donot come into question.. this digital data is then processed by the DAC on the receiver so the DAc on the player becomes redundant.. i suggest if u plan to go for a digital connection between the source and the receiver go for a dedicated transport.. Cheers, Ben |

usually most of the mid and high end universal/DVD players have better transports than the dedicated CD players..if u can go for a dedicated external DAC or have a receiver with a well designed DAC then u should get a better output than from a dedicated CDp(considering the price of the two are more or lee the same)...But an external DAC is not cheap... |

From what I understand there should be no differences between any two players that are connected to a receiver through digital coaxial. I have a Teac universal player DV-10D. I was advised that upgrading to a better players will give better quality music. My understanding is that the digital coaxial will not introduce any errors related to jitter. The Arcam 300 is supposed to have decent DACs and should provide decent output. Pleaes correct me if I am wrong. How much do the Nad C542, Arcam cd 73, Marantz cd 6000, Cambridge audio Azur C640 cost? I have a budget of 15000. |

You got that right..but again a DVD has a better transport and is a source of minimal or no errors.
i would think so..
if u don't plan to use the RCA outputs then i don't think the Arcam will be an improvement.even a decent pioneer or sony with coaxial out will give u the same result...
the Nad, Arcam, Marantz and the cambridge are all out of reach at that budget if u buy in India... maybe u could get the Marantz in the grey market.. u could try the NAdc521Bee which is available for arnd 14-15k.. [Beitrag von benkenobi am 17. Jun 2005, 13:05 bearbeitet] |
