Hi Vinod, I have been using Yamaha KXW 421 for 3 years. This is an excellent machine.Sound reproduction is as good as it can be. Dubbing is praiseworthy, even at high speed. Build quality is nice.Comes with a remote. You can go ahead with KXW 421 or KXW 321. Aniruddha. |

Thanks for the inputs. Since Onkyo was available with bill/guarantee thought that may be better. This post has changed my mind. I did hear good mention of Yamaha, technics, pioneer etc. Saw a post in bazee for Technics RS-TR271 for 8k. Any opinions. Iam visiting US next month - would it be wiser to buy from there. Saw some stuff like TEAC, Pioneer in range 200$ Rgds Vinod |

Vinodt If you are going to the US and plan to but A cassette deck there try to buy a Nakamichi from ebay. If you are lucky you could get yourself a good one in good condition. Nak prices dont drop much but you can try. Nothing beats a Nak, truly. With good quality tapes, the sound is hard to beat. This is an interesting site for Nakamichi lovers. Click on NAKs below NEWS and then click on the model no. for info. Oh! and the site connects directly to Nak sales on ebay. ![]() [Beitrag von Jeeves am 12. Apr 2005, 08:51 bearbeitet] |

Honestly I've forgotten what they look like though I have a beautiful sounding Nakamichi Cassette Deck 1. I used to tape OP's cds (Manek OP stands for other people's not Oscar peterson!) on metal tapes using a Marantz Cdp 53 which conveniently has a peak seach function. Using this the player runs thru the cd and then finding the passage with the highest peak keeps playing the passage so that you can adjust the recording level on the cassette deck. Lovely sound and I could hardly tell the difference! Dont have any of my old cassettes any more and the Nak is in storage.....maybe until cassettes are reborn as good analogue sound to compare with vinyl!!! does anyone think it may?!!! |

I guess its a question of cd quality. There is a discussion going on about that right now on a another post. I guess well recorded cds will have more dynamics than a well recorded tape and perhaps a well recorded tape will sound better than a badly recorded cd! Wonder if one can buy high quality prerecorded 'audiophile' cassettes? Prithvi? |

jeeves, I remember buying a few expensive pre-recorded tapes in the good old days from certian labels like decca, D Gramaphone and others which used to be cr/ferrous coated tapes with a bias/eq setting on the tape deck..used to cost twice that of normal tapes. Vinyl has been revived again...who knows maybe tapes too :-) I dont know if audiophile tapes are available, maybe not. But one of the things I am certainly going to do is try and restore a spool tape deck....those really gave excellent sound. manek. |
