I will try and answer your questions..

What do you want to name ?

DEEP... may be it's because these speakers go sooo deep in lower octaves you can feel 1hz too

Speakers ?

Yes, they are speakers

Where are they ?

I have no clue, Sonic please help us

What is the config ?

They are Proac clones, so config is two way but better than Proc ac.

Can they be heard ?

This is a bumper question... Cheers

Hey there Sonic,

This suspense is really killing

A while back you tempted us with a glimpse by way of a computer generated image.

I for one cannot wait to see the real deal and audition them.So tell us when O when can we get a 'taste' of these beauties ?

Cheers
K

PS - BTW where are you based these days, B'lore or Mumbai ?

It seems like you want to name your speakers after your own name. Why not: "Sun Deep" !!

May be you should shortlist 2-3 names and the run a poll here.

I have a personal suggestion. Think of a few names and they to see if a web domain name is avaiable with the same name. Then name your speakers with the complete domain name. I would recommend:

"sonic.in"

Sanjay

Sorry Sandeep the name sonic.in has already been registered by some London based complay called namegiant.com

But I'm sure that they would be interested in re-selling that name at a premium.

You could run a search for other names at net4india.co.in

ProClo?

ProDeux? (Pronounced Pro-dew)

I really like the name CLEO. It sounds like 'clear' and tells you they're rather royal and sophisticated: a la cleopatra.

Tell me what you think.

Abbreviations are all the rage nowadays.

Why not something in the lines B&W?

G&V sounds quite attractive to me.

G&V = Gas & Vapour

An audiophile company must choose its name carefully. A serious approach is required to a possibly path breaking development in India.

Yes you are right, Leak and Creek are two names which make me laugh my guts out.. Just Imagine a brand called Leak or Creek...

Well it's always the Indian consumer mentality that name plays a very important role.. Many international brands like Sugden, Klipsch, Thiel are last names of people and well accepted, but if we have to use our lastname for audio brands??( Bose is a good example )

for stance...
Abhi Pani.... Pani Audio

Savya Sachi.... Sachi Audio

Shankar Nag..... Nag Audio

Nagaraj Rao......Rao Audio ...

sounds good right, but would people accept???

Hence Sandeep aka Sonic Master wants to name it Deep..

i cant imagine the thought of asking a proac dealer to sell proac clones but i can quite imagine conversation at prithvi's place when a customer comes over.

prithvi: yes would you like to hear the proacs?

customer: sure.

(listens to them for a while)

customer: so how much are the bookshelves?

prithvi: (mentions cost)

customer: whoa! thats too much! do you have anything else?

prithvi: sure! how bout these proac clones? much cheaper, far better sound.

customer: you've got yourself a deal

hey maybe you should call them 'dolly'. after the first 'cloned' sheep. the inspiration route to naming a pair of dollies seems to quite roll of the tongue quite easily...

I hope you are taking it in the most sporting spirit.

But seriously, and IMHO, 3 most striking audio brands have India connection.

BOSE
Back in the 60’s it would require a lot of guts to call your audio startup BOSE. This was particularly noteworthy considering our image that time in US as a perpetually starving nation being kept alive by PL480 food aid programs.

India has produced some great BOSE’s. Khudiram BOSE, Subhash Chandra BOSE, Jyoti BOSE (well almost..) Add Amar Bose to that list. And yes, back then BOSE did make some nice speakers.

Having said, that I am glad that it was BOSE and not Chattopadhayaya, Bandopadhyaya or Gangopadhyaya. Or for that matter Ganguly, Bhaduri or Sengupta.

SONODYNE
Another Bengali creation. The name brought with it a lot of attitude back in the 70’s. Here it was; an Indian brand capable of taking on a Sansui or Pioneer. Every year they would have a bigger, better system. SONODYNE came across as refreshingly high tech brand compared to uninspiring product being sold by BUSH or Philips that time. It still sounds fresh and up-market despite loosing direction in the 90’s.

LYRITA
Only a gentleman like Viren could conjure up a magical beauty like that. LYRITA. Sounds just perfect. Harmonious, seamless and sensuous. Just like the Valve audio they make. Probably the most fitting brand name a tube audio company can have.

Apart from these only QUAD, which was the personal statement of Peter Walker, sounds evocative enough. Just my .2 dB.

Ok! Now lets get back to the business at hand. Do we have some more names for Sonic_Master-ji

I am not sure about that ....

QUAD was an abbriviatrion for a rather convoluted string of words:

Quality
Unit
Amplifier
Domestic

Exactly. Therein lies the beauty. Quite a statement from a guy who made PA amps prior to that.

Would like to add one more name to that list..
Laya Acoustics
Laya, in Sanskrit meaning Rhythm
The title could not be more perfect!

Arasu Kumar, who started out with his brainchild 12/13 years ago is one of the only Indian Manufacturers to build speakers, amplifiers, pre amplifiers and subwoofers which are built in house!

Starting from manufacturing of drivers to amplifier topology(Class AB, Class B...both MOSFET and transistor based) and active pre amps..to room acoustics...they do it all!
they are also probably the only company in India to manufacture Line Arrays.

In fact, only yesterday i had the pleasure of listening to his latest product.

An N channel MOSFET power amp..was rated at 60 watts per channel at 8 ohms...110 at 4.
The poroduct would be available in different power ratings with 60 being the entry level.

An absolute work of art..the amp does what its meant to ..amplify!..and man does it do it in spades.

Cheers,
Sachi
