Friends, hi every body ! I just went thro the various threads of this great forum & was really amazed! this has really been a boon for audio lovers like me; who have trying to metamorphose from just a music lover to a serious listener. I basically own a decent HT set up,I thought why not give my family a little pleasure too; when I am spending over Rs1,00,000/-!!. But the thing is it gave me a compromised audio( sterio) rig. All the more it has given me a constant itch&urge to improvise.and I started looking for various DIY's. After lots of speaker position trials, furnshing the listening room I was able to get a resonably good sterio sound which was not comming only from the two speakers any more!Icould get a good,-what they call as - sound stage imaging. One day I connected the whole of my system thro'the UPS OF MY computer and to my utter surprise there was remarkable improvement in the sound quality. The sound(the vocals and mid range) became absoltely clean, dry& transperant. it was also noticed by one of my friend who is also my sterio GURU. this was something really exciting. &it pushed me to find out some serious power supply gears like filters or conditioners. I was trying hard to find such thing in market. but most of them were not marketed in India & were very costly. and then samefriend of mine informed me about this forum & guarrented help from the senior members here. so I want to know about some affordable power conditioners& any DIY tactes regarding power supply. I am told Mr prthiviraj would be of great help to me.& my frind GURU Dr Aniruddha Dixit has referred me to him All suggestions are eagerly awaited. -dressel. |

Guy's, I have a different story. Once I needed to test a UPS and played my set up through the UPS fo a couple of hrs and noticed a hum in the Amp at 0 volume. Any reason why Dressel here had the opposite experience? Roshan. |

Hi! Dressel, Great to see more people join the group. Off late havent been able to post as have been very busy with my hiend installs. Anyhow. Mr. Murthy' makes the best available pwr conditioners from 500va to 3kva. These all are on a order basis only. First of all pls let me know in detail ur system config. R u planning on adding a TV to it? You can also upgrade to his FINESSE pwr cords and interconnects, but all in time one step at a time. I market MR. Murthy's products under the brand name of FINESSE. He also makes Bass traps, isolation platforms, spikes, pwr conditioners, pwr cables, inter-connects, racks, spk stands etc. Do note that you will also need a VERTEX servo stabilizer which has been beefeed up to my specs, hence I call it an audiophile stabilizer. By the end of April we will have the best audiophile servo available ever in india, both in specs and looks. As of now major testing is going on and only once I am satisfied I will bring it into the market. Pls send me a PM and I will respond. Dr. Dixit is a good client of mine. Give him my regards Rgds PRithvi |

Hello all, Using a computer UPS for a stereo system is actually not a good idea. Even though this UPS generates a sine wave supply, it is not a smooth sine wave, that is, has a high distortion level. Also, the supply has a high noise level; good for a computer SMPS supply, but not for audio. Computer UPS's like a constant load, that of a computer, since the current draw does not vary. Quite the opposite with music - with transients demanding upto ten times more instantaneous power. Better to go with a high capacity servo stabilizer, or an isolation transformer, to get rid of electrical noise in the supply. Viren. |

Hi guys Roshan, I did get a great improvement with UPS. Actually I never used it as a power source when power is cut off .I used it may be as a filter . But ultimately fired it. got the battery completely exhausted,& Thats why I am now in search of an authentic power regulator!! I do agree with you Viren this was not a great idea atall it was just a simple house hold trick but it worked for me for a few days. I have PMed a detailed information about my system to you Prithvi. I wait for your pm or reply. Gosh!! this thing is turning out to be interesting. --dressel. |

To give you a couple of options..... Monster power conditioner is being marketed in India and is supposed to be rated well by the press. Some people though have not found it to make any difference. Designer audio in bombay has an audiophile power conditioner which I have heard and it works extremely well. They are basically electrical filters. You may beed to buy a servo with it depending on which city you reside in. BTW dressel, which part of the country do you reside ? manek. |

depends on the power rating of your amp Vis a vis the UPS. components like the UPS would not be able to supply the large amount of dynamic power required by higher power amps hence the need for Audiophile grade filters/stabilisers. if the UPS has at least a rating of 2 times the power rating of your amp it may perform better.. the reason your UPS sounded better might be as the waveform of the AC signal given might have been superrior to the power you receive at you place..hence a good conditionar migh give you some very good benefits |

dressel hi,life is good, could be better ![]() The first thing you need is a good servo stabilizer with to control the fluctuations and protect your equipment. The line filter part you could add to your liking and budget. |
