while cleaning my components i found that many of them have started developing a dirty, gunky layer on the connections (like the rca inputs etc) i guess thats part of living in bombay esp close to the sea. i was wondering if there was anyway (some cleaner liquid perhaps) to (a) remove (b) prevent this frm happening without interfering with the signal and the purity of the connection which i'm sure must be deteriorating because of the dirt.

Pls use OKS contact cleaner spray and that should keep it clean, if you want something more than you will have to do DEOXIT & PRO-GOLD available from CRAIG LABS. Do a google search and you can buy off the net. Pretty expensive.

PS: OKS spray is available in any hardware shop, the model is called : 2621/2 OKS CONTACT CLEANER SPRAY.

it should do that, but you will have to try. Also try cleaning it with IPS (isopropyl alchol). Never use sand paper to clean the jacks, use instead a rough greeting card to clean the gung a bit.

Iso-propyl alcohol is the cheapest way.

I got one today called 2-Propanol. It's a 99% density (you get cheaper ones with less density but they are not good )Isopropyl manufactured by Merck Limited, Mumbai [www.merck.co.in]. It cost me Rs.135 for 500 ml.

I applied the same with a lint free cloth on speaker binding posts, banana plugs, rca connectors and interconnect plugs and result was astonishing.

I definitely vouch this product.

I live in london and have just bought 500mm of Isopropyl alchol for £5 from a local chemist, for the purpose of cleaning my Reel to Reel and cassete heads. Reading you previous comments has lead me to realise that most external contact points can be cleaned with Isopropyl alchol for the benifit of your hi-fi system. Chemists are not allowed to sell Isopropyl alchol to the public as it can be consumed as a beverage. Its worth getting to know your pharmacist well before asking.

Hi folks,
How does one go about getting lint free cloth? I tried asking around and no has a clue. Does it have some other 'non-audio'name. I could do with some for cleaning my records and interconnects.
