I am looking to buy a 5 speaker set up for my living room. Due to space constraints I cannot use my current setup. The receiver I am using is a Yamaha HTR-5590. It can deliver 100watts / channel. I have been to a local audio store (Sound and Vision in Hyderabad). I was suggested Wharfedale Moviestar 60 (Rs. 19,000) and Moviestar 70 (30,000).

Are these good? Is the price difference of Rs 11,000 justified b/w the Moviestar 70 and Moviestar 60?

Another thing I was wondering is if there are any good Indian brands I should be considering? I can accomate two floor standing speakers for the front. The center and rear have to be satellites due to space constraints.

I just called a dealer for Sonodyne in Hdyerabad and found that it something like a Genie II costs 6,750 per speaker. That works out to Rs 33,750. For 30,000 I can get a Wharfedale Moviestar 70 that includes 5 speakers and a subwoofer? Does the Genie II command such a price? I thought being an Indian brand it would be cheaper!

Could you please suggest a five speaker package for HT around Rs 25,000 price point?

You can try Torvin and Space (both are Indian brands and have products at your range and offer good value for money). Don't worry they are professional in audio products and buid decent high-end products (lower side of the end).
They do have an idea about customers who dont want to go all the way to 50k - 60k but either dont want to settle down for 15k midi systems so they have products to satisfy consumers who look for that high-end touch and feel at affordable prices.

And yes, Sonodyne is worth the price they quote but the thing is you get bookshelves at the price of sattelites
(sonodyne bookshelves) if you want . If you only want sattelites at rear and Center then you have to pay that amount. But but but they offer you one of the most value for money product there is no doubt about it. You can also avail there 12 months EMI scheme at 0% (genuine 0%) interest.....

I am not joking, its 100% true and its a real good factor to get tempted. If you have hard cash reserved for Hifi investments then it may not tempt you but otherwise its It is a genuine 0% interest scheme with no other charges... Enjoy dreaming

Wow. I am really glad I found out this forum and came across all you people. It is really nice to know that there is a place on the net to get some advice. Real, Practical and most of all from an Indian perspective. All the while I was living in US, I wished there was a online community of HTPC and Audio enthusiasts in India.

Man am I glad or what!!!

Now, have any of you have any idea about Wharfedales Moviestar 60 and 70.

I will check out the Torvin and Space. Any web links you can provide?

Thanks a bunch.

Wharfedales Moviestar 60 and 70 are both satellite + sub woofer packages.

Check out the Wharfedale Diamond cinema package. It is good for movies and for music both. But I dont know if it matches your budget.

Torvin has a Cineboy5.1 which is a HT package for about 25k. Seems ok. www.torvin.com

Space has quite a few 5.1 packages but most of them are sat sub combos. I have heard good things about their floorstanders but I dont know about the HT packages.

If you are interested in Indian speakers you can look at Sonodyne www.sonodyne.com (their Roarr sub-woofer has been getting rave reviews in this forum recently)and www.sanenaudio.com

Happy hunting

Hi,

I have sent mails to Sanen, Space Audio, Torvin and Sonodyne. Except for Sanen no one bothered to reply to my mail.

Unfortunately Sanen does not have 100 Watts Satellite speakers.

I will wait for another day and then probably go with Wharfedale Moviestar 70.

Looks like the Indian companies do not care for their prospective cusotmers and they do not have a distribution outlet in Hyderabad.

I have auditioned the Space speakers, they are again good value for money (at 15k) for towers but don't match the Sonodyne Sonus 2605 Tower speakers in any respect (my personal opinion). The sonus has a lot more tighter Bass with clear Mids and Balanced Highs. Moreover they are great to be played at higher volumes. The Space are a bit laid down, they dont perform that stable when you turn the Volume knob higher (I felt that). Still a Sonodyne Fan...

BTW ,, heard the wharfedale 9.1 series speakers over the weekend very briefly....decent entry level stuff.....should check it out. They also have sat sub combo in series 9.

Also heard infinity sat/bub combo. One of the better ones I have heard till date.

Srikanth,
If youre from Hyderabad, Sonodyne is marketed by the Sound Room in Banjara Hills near Music World.
The total cost of 2605 for a pair will be 23K.
Hope it helps, Other worth while dealers are Sound & Vision, Begumpet and USK Electronics - Somajiguda.

Hi Vinod,

The person at Sound and Vision has recommended Wharfedale Moviestar 70+. As far as Sonodyne is concerned I am not too impressed with their lack of response to my web queries.

I have heard the KEF KHT-1005 at the AV Revolution show in Mumbai (I happened to be their on a business visit) and was quite impressed. It is available around Rs 24,000.

I have now shortlisted the KEF KHT-1005 ( http://www.kef.com/kefamerica/KHT/KHT1005/sat_specs.htm ) and the Wharfedale Moviestar 70+.
