What do you think the good standmounts for a 12' x12' x11' bedroom? The speakers will be partnered with Cayin TA30 and Marantz 6000 OSE.My budget is around 30k and the speakers will be positioned close to the back wall.
Thanks

if the speakers are positioned close to the back wall then front ported speakers is what you would want.

In front ported speakers, you have the wharfedale diamonds and evo series, psb, cadence. The other good ones like dynaudio, quad etc are rear ported.

If you are gojng to put them 2-3 inches from the wall then I would forget the rear ported speakers altogether. If the rear distance can be stretched to a foot then rear ported speakers can be used.

One could argue that foam bungs can be employed in rear ported speakers close to a wall but foam bungs never sounded good to my ears and is a compromise you have to decide to live with or not.

Rear ported won't work for me.... so need to look for front ported ones.
As you very well know that we have very few audio dealers in Kolkata. The range which is readily available for audition is Dali, klipsch, B&W & Tannoy.
Moreover, a guy from whom i get my audio repaired wants to sell MA Bronze 2, which he recently got from Singapore, for Rs.16,500/-.
Which in your opinion willbe better suited to tubes?
Thanks

No sure if tubes ca really drive Monitor Audios..tho thespeakers are nice with a big sound.

Could you see if you can locate a Castle Dealer in that area ? These are very british speakers and are much easlier to drive..

tannoy and klipsch would be the easiest to drive out of the lot I guess. best thing to do is take your amp to the dealers, rig it up with his options and hear it for yourself. If you can get a home demo, then even better.

What your budget like ? around 20K max I would guess ?

If you looking for stand mounted speakers in the 30k price range give Maonitor Audio Silver S2 a try. It is a 2 way with largish 7" frame mid bass driver, rear ported aluminium composite coned real wood veneered speaker of average sensitivity.

It is a great compromise design, in fact all speakers are a compromise and it is the designers skill to get the right mix of good and bad, kind of jack of all trades.. MA S2 is one speakers you cannot find any major faults, it can be used for your Ella LP's as well as for Mahler CD's, can make you kick your bed in syc with John Bonham's drums while listening to LedZepplin's Moby Dick.

They image as well or better than some 100k speakers do, if palced well away from the rear and side walls you can get a VERY VERY DEEP and wide sound stage they goes beyond the sides and the speakers do disappear. (note. you have to remove the wooden framed grill and the protective metal sheild of the tweeter held by magnet and be carefull that no one touches the delicate metal dome)

Give it a try before spending your 30K that is my humble request.

sorry I just read your 30k budget you posted in your first post on this thread.

If you can get a pair of cadence arita's, there ends the matter for me but since you are buying spkrs try the klipsch or the tannoy if they are front ported. Wharfedale evo series could also be a good bet as they are front ported too.

myriad,

The most important thing to consider with your tube amp are speakers with reasonably high sensitivity 88db above, with nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a speaker without many impedance swings in its frequency range. I know the last one is near impossible to find out but maybe you could get some inputs from either the speaker tech specs if at all mentioned on the website or visit soundstage.com. They have measured many speakers and amps and the data is there for public viewing.
