The speaker that immediately comes to my mind is Dynaudio Audience72. For the price they rock. If you have to look at other things these are the ones you can also look at: 1. Energy RC-70 2. Dali Ikon6 3. Dali Suite 2.8 4. Kef iQ9 |

Hello ! Welcome to the Forum - I would love to give you some suggestions, however @ 80 K, there is nothing you can buy that will improve on what you corrently have. Please do stick with your current set up. It is nice. If you are in a position to go to 200/- K, then try to upgrade. Changing gear for the same of change may not be a good idea. Your budget for a speaker is about 40 K [out of the 70 - 80]. What can you buy @ that price ? I mean which speaker @ 40 to 50 K will 'smash' the KEF Q-5's ? Even your CDP is a great player. P to P i.e. !!! [Beitrag von bhagwan69 am 24. Aug 2007, 04:21 bearbeitet] |

you'd get far more value with bookshelves. just pick up an issue of whathi-fi, make a note of all the speakers put up a list here and everyone here will am sure have different opinions. so doing the rounds yourself will be better. if you want to listen to viren's single driver speakers, floorstanders you're welcome to drop in. i listen to rock too. a bit of country, jazz, soft rock, blues. i've taken his amp and heard it with the kef iq5s and to my ears his speakers are better. you can listen to his valve amp too. the tone they produce is nothing like i've ever heard with a solid state so far. brilliant with guitaring. there's more emotion in the set up. other systems might have that extra treble or tighter bass but for sheer engagement... ah... all IMO, etc... regards abhi the iq5 is better than iq9 in my opinion. any reason for recommending it? would like to know your opinion. |

Methinks you have a system mismatch. If you want to stay with the amp, then you should look at speakers that work well with them. Try Epos or even the Quad 11 or 12 bookshelves. Cheers K |

You are right I picked up or rather smuggled Rega into India in assumption that it should work well with Q5 as it was doing good with Cambridge amp. It still is better with CA amp than Rega. |

la Scala, missed this thread out earlier ! your room i pretty spacious (Is it well damped with furniture ? ) hence you might prefer the extra bass a floorstander will give you but a bookshelf in that range may just about give you a better midrange. YOur amp is pretty decent and so is you CDP hence for maximum bang for the buck you need to only upgrade the speakers, the rega and the cambridge can last you much more (Your next upgrade IMHO should be your cdp). you just need to make sure that your speaker synergise well with your amp and only option there is to Demo as much a you can. Also do check out the web and see other setups with a Rega Brio. there are many choices in speakers in that range. I am not sure of the proac Tablette latest price, but that would be an excellent choice for your amp. Cadence Diva/Arita+Stand also might not be a bad idea.(never heard it though) then of course there are the others mentioned |

I hope it's clear where speakers are left and right near wall and me 10 ft away. Yes there are carpets on wall, floor and thick curtains. [Beitrag von LaScalaa am 24. Aug 2007, 06:17 bearbeitet] |

Monitor Audio speakers are generally good for rock...try RS1. In bookshelves, one of the best rock spearkers is Totem Rainmaker though some find it a bit bright due to its metal tweeter. Do consider these... |

If your budget is about 70k to 80k for the speakers, then i would strongly recommend the Dali Ikon 6 (floorstander) or the Cadence Arita (bookshelf) with the stands. Kef has already launched the new IQ5se. IQ9 is a no good speaker (IMO) ofcourse. Regards SNV |

Superb Speaker - Lovely Suggestion. I do not find the tweeter bright. However, in a big room - a smallish speaker may or may not work. 255 sq. ft. in not a small room. But call for a demo from Audio People, listen to it & then take a call. |

Hi and Welcome, What is it that you are dissatisfied with, or what would it be that you would like to improve upon. The music you have listed is fairly undemanding - I am sorry if that sounds condescending - but all the more reason you need to tell us what kind of improvements you are looking for. Is it bass that is lacking, is there too much of uncontrolled bass. Does the music get cluttered, or is there a low level listening constraint. Members are suggesting that the speakers are your weak link. They may well be right. Howevers KEF speakers are quite refined and should be OK for the music you mention. It may or may not be a good idea going in for smaller monitors, depending on what you are looking for. On another note, I do believe that the the Rega has a decent phono stage. Have you ever heard a Turntable on your system? purnendu |

The suggestion on Monitor audio is an excellent one to do some follow up on. intuitively it should be a good combination.. I liked the older Monitor audio series..could rock as well as sing. I think they make a pretty good pair with most british amps belonging to "old school" in tonality and rega is definitely one. |

Hi La Scalaa If you are looking at Monitor Audio, please audition their Gold Signature series, the RS though good may not be much of an upgrade from the KEF you own. I have personal experience with older Gold ref, they have very refined top end along with cleaner mid, the LF though leaner is of much higher pitch resolving when compared to RS series. All this time I request you to keep in mind what your goal is? what do you expect from your Rs80k ? Regards Ani |

just heard te quad 11L active for 46K. Nice speakers though they were a bit forward in their presentation. Prefer the 11L passive with quad electronics by a small margin. 12L active available at 62K. Those should be good too. The 22L are going for a good price of 60K. You could try those. I did like the 21L a lot as well. Manek. |
