My Chennai friend purchased a pre-owned Proton stereo amp D540 from forum member Nietzche a few months ago. Unfortunately, the right channel of this amplifier has stopped working. The left channel, however, still works fine. When I interchanged the RCA connectors at the input to the amp, still the right channel wouldn't work. On trying the different inputs (Tape 1, CD, etc), the problem remained. The symptoms are: Either there is no output at all from the right speaker or the sound is much fainter than the left speaker. Occassionally, the right channel will work properly. When it isn't working, there is sometimes a noise disturbance from the speaker. Please help me as we do hate listening to good classics in mono  Does the amp need servicing or just some cleaning? I haven't opened an amp before.

I speculate its a: 1. Switch Problem ... Rotate the switch a few times rapidly. Worst case it would need to be serviced / reoaired. or 2. Check the link ( if its an external link ) from the Pre to the Power Amp. |

AmpNut, It's an integrated amp and the links from pre to power at the rear are strong and tight. To select a source, we have to press buttons on the front. By 'switch', do u mean the volume control knob  |
