Has anyone heard of "Le Amp" from Norh or the Advance Acoustic MAA405 power amp? Both these amps look great value for money at a price point of around Rs. 40K Advance Acoustic can be purchased in India, while Le Amp 3 can be bought directly from the manufacturer in Thailand. The links for these two products are: http://www.advance-acoustic.com/en-product.php?id=7 http://www.norh.com/products/leamp2/index.html http://www.norh.com/news.html |

norh speakers are very unusual.. and for their size they pump some mean bass. midrange is not as pure but still sounds good. but in real life its pyramids and cones are very unusual and that is a turnoff for some. i think they may make a real good HT ! Norh did venture into Valve SETs sometime back but did not really do so well.. not sure on how good it is in comparison to others but they are made very near and do direct shipping as well even for spare parts. furthermore its owner is about as reclusive and enigmatic as Shanti from cadence [Beitrag von Arj am 05. The Le Amp monoblocks looks fantastic on the specs. I wonder how it sounds. Going by the Norh’s reputation they could turn out to be fantastic amps. Any body heard them ? |

Yes, it looks like the Le Amp should be great value for money. I am itching to buy it, if only I could hear it before buying. On the topic of Value for Money amps: Has anyone heard of the Odyssey Stratos? http://www.odysseyaudio.com/stratos.html It's available in the second hand market in the US/Singapore for under Rs. 30K |

I had asked around about it some years back. aparently when it came to amps the MIC brands were much more VFM. i think you will get a much better package from Viren on this. |

Viren's valve pre/valve monoblocks are really great. Heard some tracks from Ladysmith Black Mjambo's Shaka Zulu & Cat Stevens' Tea For The Tillerman thru them. Whoooooooo! Kamal |

Thanks for your help everyone. I bought a used Odyssey Stratus Plus amp. And now, I have to save up for a pre-amp. |

Great going dude……….. have fun. That is a serious amp for money. Try and pair with a valve preamp. Check with Manek for some good options if you like big brands or you could look at Corrson or Lyrita audio for some serious home-grown stuff. I think the stratos is around 11k input impedance if it is the red-board variety. Make sure you maintain a 1 :10 ratio between this and the output impedance of the pre-amp. |

I have met the farang owner of Norh through the kind courtesies of a respected Thai tube guru and audio man Kitipol. Norh have some interesting products. The owner is definitely not reclusive as Swami Shanti. He needs a reason to stay in Thailand and Norh is that. As far as I remember he did not have any SET at the time. I was more interested to meet the company which made chassis for Norh (and several other farang audio companies) in Thailand. This time I have ordered a customised Aluminium monoblock chassis for my long in-progress 845 SET amps from them and hope to pick up the same in Jan 2007. For VFM tube audio I would check out Lyrita. |
