Hi !

I am planning on buying a CD Player which I intend to mate with NAD C320BEE amp and KEF Coda 90 speakers. In past I have used Teac and NAD C521BEE - the latter was satisfactory (both these were stolen in a burglary)but the lens started to give trouble because of Delhi dust.

I am considering Marantz CD 5001 because Marantz has official showroom in Delhi & the service backup.

My liking for music is quite varied ranging from indian classical to Western classical to Hard rock.

I will appreciate your help.

Regards

Sanjay

I would avoid the newer 5001 series cd player. I know a few people who have invested and not at all happy with them. The older cd 6000ose was pretty good. Nowadays, the CA Azur 640 v2 or even some other models from Marantz like the cd17 would be a better bet. There is a heavy built, good Marantz sacd player for sale with Siva. I don’t know if it is still there. Why don’t you pm him and see ?

Today I auditioned Marantz CD-5001 with NAD C320BEE amp. I sounded great and dare I say better than NAD CD521BEE. At the price tag of 15K (authorized & warranty), I am really tempted to buy it.

And to my suprise Marantz CDP sounded much better with NAD amp than with Marantz Amps - PM 7200, 4001 & 7001 !!

How is CA Azur 640C? And how much does it cost?

Regards

Sanjay

Today I finally bought Marantz CD-5001 for 14 K (authorized). I will use it & give you a detailed feedback.

CA Azur 60C costs 26K in Delhi (may be later when I graduate to higher "Octaves").

hi,
Congtrats that you finally got your choice.

Could you pls let me know more about the Marantz Stereo Apms that you auditioned in the range of 15-20K.

I am yet to buy a system, as of now just gathering inputs.

My music range is wide....from Rock, Jazz, old hindi film songs, reggae, oldies.....

Thanks ,

Hi Viv,

I was quite impressed with Marantz Amp PM-4001 (& higher models) but when I took along my NAD C320BEE, it simply outperformed them with their own CD Player.

Both NAD C320BEE & Marantz PM-4001 cost about the same around 20 K. But there is no authorised dealer for NAD in Delhi. The dealer is Mumbai - Lakozy is willing to send it anywhere in India.

Well, thatz the risk about NAD in Blore too. There are some places who do sell the NAD, but I dont think they are real dealers of NAD. This is a bit scary.
I invest 20K for an Amp and there are no dealers for future repairs ?

Thanks for your inputs anyways.

Cheers and have a great time.

I think Trinity Sound & Vision in GK-1 deals in NAD. You can try to contact them.

Trinity sells grey market NAD and charges normal price. And although he is authorised dealer for Denon - he sells gey market Denon stuff too.

So watch out.

Hey Viv,

ARN Systems in Blr are authorised dealers for NAD. I picked up my 320BEE from them. They have a showroom in the Sigma Mall at Cunningham Road.

Hi Soulforged,

I was not at all impressed with ARN...i had been to them in the last month.

He had only one NAD CD player..not sure whcih one.

Before I myself seeing the NAD kept, i asked the guy on the counter..."Are you all dealers with NAD" and he gave me look as though I was speaking some crap. and it looked like he never heard "NAD".

He also claims to be the dealer for Monitor Audio....but I did not see a single speaker.

So my feedback about him is not very good.

He essentially deals with laptops, PC's etc.....and NAD/Monitor seems to be his side business. Buying from such guys I think is risky.

I had a similar experience with ARN. I too went there a month back and they just had a NAD reciever (old model) and a Velodyne sub...thats it. Infact I couldnt make out that its a hifi shop. I was going round and round around the mall trying to locate this shop and only when I could see a NAD reciever that I had a doubt that this shop might be the one. But when I entered in, they were all dealing with Computer accessories and stuffs...I didnt even feel like asking anything more and walked back. At present they are BS.

Most dealers in India are sub-dealers appointed by the distributors. Even if one is an appointed sub-dealer, there is no guarantee that he will stay with the same brand for a long time. He may decide to close shop or move on to some other business. Same holds true for even for distributors and authorized dealers. The manufacturer itself may decide to give the brand to somebody else. So it is always a calculated risk that you take when you buy any niche audiophile brand in India. Only thing that you can do is to look for dealers who have a solid track record for many years in the audio industry and hope that he does not close shop. That is all we can do.

I understand what you are saying square_wave.

But this ARN guy is just pathetic.

I compare ARN with the warfdale(Infantry Road) and dennon(MG ROAD).

ARN is more of a PC/laptop dealer and knows nothing about music/audio. he does not seem to have not heard the name "NAD" in his entire life ??

I got his reference from a "NAD" advertisment on "What Hi-fi"....but really surprised to see just one CD player for demo.....

I did'nt like the NAd CDps too mch...prefer my H/K DVD player to the NAD..except for its balance across the frequency response.
though the highs are a bright in mine the soundstage is much more involving and livlier.
Of course, my DVD is up for a major shot int he arm soon ....

The Sigma Mall outlet is not the front end for their HiFi stuff and the guys out there do not know a sh*t about audio...they have another office in frasier town where they did have a few NAD amp/cdps and PSB spkrs...ask for Javed and speak to him...he does talk some sense...

Hey Viv,
i am from Bangalore.
I bought my H/K in Duabi 3 years ago.
It basically uses the same DACs that the cambridge audio Azur uses(used to at least).
I think they have upgraded the azur series as well..
u might as well take a look at it.

Besides, just for the fact that i prefer my H/K over the NAd doesn't change the fact that my DVD player does many things wrong.

however, that's soon going to change..

Hi !

I finally bought Marantz CD-5001 for Rs. 14000 from Proacoustics.

First impression - very good resolution, good tonal balance, good imaging and some nice features too - CD text and display off.

Regards

Sanjay
