We're only meeting for lunch? Then I fear I'll be just sitting and trying to comprehend you guys. Half the stuff will probably go over my head Here's what I expect the conversation would be: - Disclaimer - The following is entirely fictional. Manek: Anyone heard the new Plinius amp? Its awesome! Deaf: Yes, I'm impressed by the transients and the microdynamics. Zhopudey: Hmmmmmmmm Bombaywalla: I heard the Klipsch System at a friends place. Its ok. Not so great. Sharukh: They are very finicky towards placements and setup. Your friend must not have setup the crossover on the Sub properly. Maybe its not in phase. And he should take care of first order reflections. Zhopudey: Hmmmmmmmm Amp Nut: The Kimberkable interconnects are very good! They flesh out the bass, and inject life in the treble. Satyam: I don't believe in these expensive cables. Its just snake oil. Use good OFC heavy guage cables. Also, loading the CD Player helps a lot. Zhopudey: Hmmmmmmmm. Can you pass the salt please? etc, etc.....:P ( All this is composed from random jargon I've picked from thru reading reviews for a couple of years. I don't understand a word of it. ) |

Good to read that atleast 7 motivated individuals showed up! There was a lot of enthusiasm from many others when the thread was started. Looks like that was all vapour-ware, eh? When it actually comes down to showing commitment & realizing an audio club in BOM, most people bug out as they have other more important plans! Anyway, kudos to Deaf for making the effort. It would be better to set an agenda before meeting; otherwise, if & when you guys meet (esp. in a restaurant) the focus will always be on eating & drinking & not on audio. I would highly recommend meeting at one audio member's house & change the venue each time so everybody pitches-in in a round-robin fashion. One suggestion I have is that you guys have once-per-month meetings & start out w/ an "audio crawl" wherein a few willing members (say 3-4 & no more) open up their systems to the other visiting members. You start at one house, listen to that system & then move to the next house & so on. In a few hours you listen to 3-4 systems & you get to hear diff equipment, see diff tweaks & understand the how & why of that system. Broadens all visiting members' audio knowledge. Refreshments can be served at the host's discretion. The next time you all meet, select another 3-4 different members & do the audio crawl. There should be enough members in BOM to create a large enough circle that when you come around to the 1st set of 3-4 systems, several months have gone by. I've found that listening & understanding others' systems provokes a lot of impromptu discussion, which can be very stimulating. So, it will not be just listening & then moving on. FWIW. |

hey sub...why lose a chance for interacting with fellow and senior audiophiles coz of a few undesirable fellows...we can just choose to ignore them if they do turn up... plus i've seen that ppl behave radically different in person than they do online...their courage lies in their anonymity... |

Hi sorry for the delay in the report. We met at JATC Bandra, the dudes included Manek,Bhagwan, SBFX, Ampnut Shahrukh and myself from the forum, and I took an audio buddy along too.I invited a chap named Bhavesh who I met a day earlier to the meet too.Bhavesh as it turns out is quite a multifaceted chap. The idea of having a meet for the Indian audio industry was not well understood by others at first, but as discussions flowed the concept seemed to have some meaning. The concept is simple, have a planned but casual meeting between audiophiles, music lovers,DIY chaps and audio manufacturers to bring Indian products to a higher level of performance and finish. This interaction is very necessary to increase the level of awareness at a national level.I believe that though manufactures have great talent in our country, they could use some of the inputs from local audiophiles with regard to different aspects of audio reproduction, product finish, ergonomics, packaging and pricing that will bring Indian products closer to international standards. We in return can then use some of these products and recommend them in future to others as pricing will be more favourable too.All this might sound far fetched right now, but slow and steady is the mantra for success. I must thank all those who showed up for the meet.Manek is very encouraging towards the concept, and Ampnut with his experience regarding industry shows, might just prove to be the magic trick to do this in an inexpensive manner. If others have some inputs with regards to this idea please feel free to express yourselves. I hope that when we do have this meet, Bombaywalla is around as his inputs could prove quite invaluable for our local manufacturers. Regards Deaf. |

Hello Deaf, Your concept for the meet seems well thought out. Count me in, on behalf of Lyrita Audio. Sometimes, as designers and manufacturers, we get too cloistered in how we view our own products. An interaction with experienced users will be very helpful. All in improving products, creating awareness, and advancing the Indian audio industry. And in talking to real people. I don't know about others, but talking to acronyms is not my idea of having a conversation! Viren. |

Tough luck, I was out for a few days. My brother got married at Chennai. And I missed the meet! Hope you guys are going to meet up at each others home or maybe we can visit commercial dealers collectively so that we can share our opinions. If anyone wishes to visit my place at Bandra, just PM me. Someone will have to be kind enough to get a DVD player as my comp may spoil the party |

After Mumbai & Banglore it's Delhi's turn !!! So Delhi & NCR guys, please send me your names & contact info via PM. Folks from other states are also welcome to join in. Concept is as follows: - We meet a Sunday morning at say 10:30 am - Tea & Introduction (30 min) - Lecture on some important concept of HiFi by an authority on the subject. (May be Viren could speak on say Amplifiers) (1 hr) - Demostration of equipment by any one vendor or manufacturer highlighting the concepts discussed in the lecture (30 min) - Open House Duscussion (1 hr) - Lunch - End We will try to have teh vendor / manufacturer sponsor the entire event. (And if full sponsorship is not possibble then the participants may have to chip in some contribution). We could make it a formal group with proper membership and regular (monthl or quarterely meetings). Your views & ideas are welcome ! Regards Sanjay |

Hi Sanjay, Sounds like an Audio Club to me! Let's try this out informally first. What sustains us all is interest in audio reproduction - that interest should carry us through. Meetings built up on financial sponsorship will always be a problem. Maybe, those can happen as a special occassion. So, if ten of us or so from Delhi NCR can agree, we can meet in a home. Venues, and accommodating people will be a challenge, but I can start things off by arranging two places I can think of. Those meetings will probably spark more interest, and things can then roll on their own. In audio, of course there are levels, that we all seek to achieve on our own. But I think that all of us can enjoy music in our own way - so, nobody needs to be apologetic of their music systems. Everyone meets as equals. Opinions, anyone? Viren. |
