thought of sharing this on the forum- r anirvan The ELP Laser Turntable is unique in that it uses laser beams instead of a phono cartridge to play the traditional analog LP records. When the LP record is well maintained, the ELP laser turntable can reproduce music that is at par with or better than the Compact Disc. It is definitely one of the best analog LP sound reproduction systems that can pick up detail which cannot be traced even by the best phono cartridge http://www.elpj.com/ |

I remember reading about this sometime back as to how it would revolutionize LP playing and at the same time extending the life of an LP as there is no mechanical contact. but the biggest pitfall to this was the smalles spec of dust, which is so casually removed by a stylus actually causes problems with a laser. hence this never really caught on. Only those folks who had the patience to wipe an LP well before plaing it liked it. |

I too remember thqt a review of stereophile had the same problem, even if a small spec of dust was there then you would get a lot of noise in the sound. The only way is to get a good cleaning machine like Nitty Gritty or a VPI so that you can clean the records before playing it. IMHO, nothing like a good analogue TT. |
