Thtas funny.. with 112 dB, the formula gives a value of 10. So you need to multiply by 10 to get 100 %. but that means that at 82dB the speaker is 5% efficient . somehow that makes more sense. so a typical speaker at arpund 87-89 dB will be soùmething like 9-10 % efficient Eff (x10) Sens 10.0 = 112 7.4 = 109 5.5 = 106 4.1 = 103 3.0 = 100 2.2 = 97 1.7 = 94 1.2 = 91 0.9 = 88 0.7 = 85 0.5 = 82 some more research required |

that's right..i remmeber opening a therad on diyaudio.com quite a while back debating on sensitivity and efficiency..suggest u look it up by searching fo rit...ver informative with formlaer for calculating both...the 112dB is the reference...i guess i would benefit by having another look at that thread myself.. |

goodness an 82db Speaker being only .5% efficient rather 99.5%inefficient seems to really really hurt the engineer in me Wonder how an ESL would fare in this.Would digital speakers be any better ? or will "Moving air" always have this constraint ?
