Hello i have a problem with the yamaha RX-V740 and i hope somebody here can help me. I have a yamaha RX-V740 A/V receiver with two B&W 602 S3 speakers and some monster cable. The problem i have is this. Sometimes when i power up the yamaha, the system plays music only on the right speaker. There is no sound coming out of the left speaker. This doesn't happen very often, it happens about once a day. If i switch off the speakers by pressing "speakers A" button and i switch them back on a couple of times, then the problem goes away and both speakers output sound. This problem shows up with tv sound/tuner etc. Has anybody noticed anything similar? Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? I would like to factory reset the A/V receiver. Can somebody tell me how to reset the receiver? Please write if you know anything about this!!!! |

Hi redoced ! My best wishes for you to solve the problem. But I don't think a factory reset would help. Did you already check the connections at the receiver and the speakers ? How about changing the speakers ? (Left to Right) Additional maybe using other cables ? First you should know, if the problem is really related to the receiver. Hy, that´s my opinion, too! Please check the cable and the connections, change the speakers. |

Thanks for your reply. Just yesterday i swapped the cables left/right to find out if it is a problem with the cables. When the problem shows up again and i know if it is the cables, i will swap speakers left/right so i can find out if it is the speakers. It will be very interesting to see what is causing this. I am not 100% sure it is the receiver but i am afraid this is causing it.... |

Hi redoced, did you check your impedance input selector on the back side of your Yamaha? As far as I know Yamaha is a brand that requires a speaker adjustment depending on the different impedance of connected speakers. If you are driving speakers with less than 8 Ohm, you should set the impedance input selector in left position. This could be causing your problem with the malfunctionality of the left speaker. Give it a try and good luck! Best regards drachenbremser |

Hi, i am using 8 Ohm speakers and i have the switch set to the right position as you view the unit from the back. Yesterday i saw the problem again when i powered up the unit and i was still having a problem with the left speaker even though i had switched the cables. So this rules the cables out. I switched the left/right speakers and i want to see what happens now. If the problem switches sides then it might be the speakers to blame and not the receiver. Another thing that i noticed yesterday, is that the left speaker became alive about 20 seconds after the right one. This happened the same time i pressed the TUNER button on the remote control. Could these two events be related? Is it justified that one of the speakers comes alive after the other one? Any thoughts welcome!! |

Hello redoced !
This is the prefered position for 8 Ohm speakers. But this should have nothing to with your problem. 8 Ohm speakers normally work with 4 Ohm position too. (The volume might be a little lower)
We and you just must wait for the results of switching your speakers.
A Receiver is just an amp with an integrated Tuner. Normally there should be no relation. I think, it just happened at the same time.
Do you have the problems only with analog sources ? How does it work with digital connected devices like DVD or CD ? At least : If it is not the speaker, you should bring the 740 to the customer service. Perhaps it is "only" a connection problem inside the 740. Best regards PIWI |

Hi PIWI, most of the times that i power up the receiver i have it in either TV or TUNER so i can't really say if the problem would show up with a DVD or a CD. Finally after switching speakers, the problem remains on the left side speaker so at least i know that my cables and speakers are OK!! This seems more and more to be a yamaha problem. Last night when i powered up the system i noticed that the left speaker was giving a lot less volume than the volume of the right speaker even though i have them balanced in the setup. After switching off and on the system the problem went away!!!!! I am thinking something has gone bad inside the receiver and i've only had this for 5-6 months now and i must say i have been very respectfull to the volume control, never more that -30db. I think the only thing to do now is to send it to be repaired, i hope it doesn't cost me anything. Way to go yamaha!! |
