Dear Friends, I am selling my Acoustic Portrait PM-1 Tube preamp. Its their reference model and needless to say is an amazing preamp even at the new retail price. They performed neck to neck with some of the most well regarded preamps under 150k including Shindo Labs. I am selling them only because my power amp has a lot of gain and I would be just happy with a Passive preamp. That would also allow me to make little adjustments in volume level in a easier way. Sonically they sounded like the best of solid state and tube combo. Neutral sound with a clean tight bass but the organic quality of the tube is retained to the fullest. Amazingly detailed and transparent for a tube preamp. This preamp is around 8 months old. I have upgraded the tubes to JJ (Siva feels that is the best match for this preamp). They are in mint condition. I had paid 68k for the preamp. Please PM me to discuss further. regards Abhi |

All the best with your sale. If you are looking @ a passive device - may I recommend Music First Audio. KB in Bangalore has it. Borrow it & listen to it; I love the product, was [am] still keen to buy 1 for myself, but MFA & myself cannot come to a 'price understanding' for the top of the line 'ref' model. I recommend this passive pre very hightly. At least listen to it ! |

I too am looking out for a TVC Pre which I believe the MFA is. Maybe we can look at the possibility of placing a group order and posibly get a good pricing. What say? Max |

I heard a 1000 Pound fellow in my house - thst is what is in use by my friend in Bangalore. It is a great VFM product. WHat I wanted for myself was the ref model, but I was not in a position to come to a price understanding with MFA. All said, this is a 'good' pre amplifier. The entry level pre is a good pre. Will take the fight home to most pre amps up to 5 K ! I heard the middle of the line pre in Munich - MOC - 2 months back with ML Power Amps. |

http://www.audiogon....t-audio-refernce-pas This is the model for sale on Audiogon. Just for your info... Rather expensive - I felt so too. This pre should be 'listed' @ 4 to 5 K Pounds - Max - tops...Not 9 K as it currently is. Besides it is a 'passive' device. Inputs & Outputs cannot be programmed etc. |

9000 pounds for a passive device Bloody daylight robbery I am sure if a good DIY guy puts his heart into it, he can make one for 1/10th of the price and probably beat it. Siva, are you listening ? |

I'm not an expert on this...but there are many cheaper solutions available and there are manufactuers who know what they are doing.....you can probably get a Passive transformer done in pure silver for less than this price |

There is no Silver in this pre amp. It is a 'passive' device. I guess the rate includes purse / bags for thier wife & mistresses... !! Just kiddin... but truly, insane price. Just like that The Lars Tube Amplifier - reviewed in The Stereophile - last month @ 100 K US $'s for a 16 watt 300 B tube amp. This audio world has gone 'ko - ko' !!! http://thelars.se/ http://blog.stereophile.com/ces2009/lars_by_lars/ http://blog.stereophile.com/ces2009/ithei_lars/ |

Hi, Are we forgeting that we are not paying for the cost of induvidual components but for the "MFA" passive pre Jokes apart, It looks like the global eco slowdown has increased the price of all Toys, be it audio, camera lenses or game rifles !! |

I agree ani.... I just wanted to point out that one would have to use an AWEFUL lot of silver to justify price based on the material cost of Silver . Maybe they want to live off a SINGLE sale ... ? I also remembering reading recently that the perception at the Munich HiFi Show was that manufacturers MUST price your product above ATLEAST US $ 2500 for it to be taken seriously [Beitrag von Amp_Nut am 02. If we are talking about "torn a new hole many time over" or "gang rape" then add Kondo-san's Audio Note Japan products to that list. |

Of all the pricing stratergies ... the one I find Particularly laughable, is the selective ripoff.... an example: Stereophile Review
It seems fair to presume that the manuafacturer is making the money that he wanted to, at the regular price of US $ 3500 Extras should therefore be priced at actuals + a 'reasonable' markup to cover overheads & take a similar % profit. However, for the Silver Transformer ONLY, there is an EXTRA US6.500 ! Now US $ 6500 at todays rate of Silver, will buy more than 14 Kbs of Silver, while the ENTIRE product, including the housing weighs 1.4 Kgs [Beitrag von Amp_Nut am 06. Jul 2009, 08:17 bearbeitet] |

Yes still available but no more for sale . After Siva changed the tubes to 6N2P this preamp has improved by leaps and bounds, almost a keeper now. I would highly recommend you talk to Siva (he is a forum member here) and try to get him to make you one if you are sincerely looking for a high quality tube preamp. |

There is another used PM-1 preamp available from one of my friend, as he upgraded to a more souped up version of the same preamp. Expected Price : Rs.42k/- Alternatively a cheaper version of the preamp (in everyway similar to PM1, except that it has been enclosed in a cheaper "Delhi" chassis (As they call in Bangalore), but well reinforced mechanically. A Chinese attenuator with SMD and a combination of Panasonic/Solen caps for sigal...a great Value @ 22k. As an uprade over regular PM1, all resistors are DALE. |

They are the cheapest Chassis one can purchase, down south. It is know as Delhi Chassis...because it generally comes from there (impossible to make chassis at this in cost..anywhere in Bangalore or Chennai) They are generally supplied with various DIY kits (also from Delhi) available to the budget end of the market. |

Thanks Arj. It was one of the early models, which is already sold out. Trying to come up with a new model, which better asthetics, as many are complaining on that front. |
