Hi All,

My bro from US sent me a can of Liquid nails and asked me to remove the drivers and smear it inside the cabinet i.e. across the point where the front baffle meets the cabinet. He claims that many in US do this for cabinet reinforcement and tighter bass. Liquid nails is lying at home , but I'm too reluctant towards this tweak _ the reason :I feel drivers once removed and the MDF's don't accept the screws back again, they damn start slipping threads..too confused?

you have to put a checknut at the back of the screws, a threaded thin plate so that you dont depend on the threads of the mdf.

SUB, you are likely to spoil the originality of your speakers. If I'm not wrong, you own Klipsch make. Their's construction is not that bad & doesn't reqr your said tweak.

Yup powersupply thats what has stopped me from quite a while against jumping into this tweak, but some claim it has gone a good long way in improving sound and cabinet remains reinforced too....aargghh ....

All speakers are made to a specific price point. Compromises are many especially in the entry/mid level. The cabinet is usually the most compromised part of any entry/mid level speaker because of issues like shipping weight and labor over heads and cost factor. Almost all of them can be tweaked to perform better. You just need to know what you are doing. That’s all.

Instead meddling first with spk box & drivers, you look at your source, amp, cables etc & confirm that they are of good quality prods & doing justice to your sound. You are trying to make your speakers sound bass tight right?. IMO Klipsch Ref series will give tight rock solid bass, provided your Amp can deliver it. Just you experiment with diff amp, placement of your speakers etc (not to forget to use spikes) & you should get what you are looking for. You keep meddling with speaker box as last resort Hey! it's just my suggestion.

hey this tweak has to do more with rigidity...will try and contact him to procure more details.

thats true the synergy series suffer the same like rest of entry/mid level brands, but when contacted Klipsch about the tweak they replied since RF's are refernce series we can expect tighter build quality and better materials than the ones down the pyramid.

You are trying to make your speakers sound bass tight right?.

hey thats not the idea..I was being told this tweaks are done irrespective of bass being tight or not, just to reinforce the cabinets which results in better sound..As you rightly wrote that
you look at your source, amp, cables etc & confirm that they are of good quality prods & doing justice to your sound.
...lets assume you have the best of source , amp , cables but this tweak can add lil more quality...

Then you don't need to spoil your Ref Series speakers

sub,

I dont know much about using liquid nails...never used them.

My funda in life is..if it ain't broken, dont fix it

If the tweaking bug has hit you as it does to all of us...build a set of two way speakers with budget materials and tweak the hell out of them
