Hi Am a novice at this. Have been doing some research on the web- and reading a lot of posts on this forum. Am looking at putting together a 5.1 channel HTS. Budget approx would be 50 k- spkrs and AVR. (Don't know if I can afford that either- but what the hell!!) Have been reading and would like to chk out: AVRs: Yamaha, Marantz, Denon.. (would any others fit the budget?) Spkrs: Yamaha, Onkyo, Sonodyne, Cadence.. (what else is good enough?) Could someone please help me on how/ where I go about auditioning these in Mumbai? Thanks Raghav ps. Always wanted to have floorstanders. Would it be worth it to hanker after those in a tight budget at all? |

hi raghav, i think for 50k yu can get quite a lot- apart from the 'hometheatre in boxes' yu can buy a decent receiver of either yamaha ,denon, harman/kardon for half the money and speand the rest on the speakers-wharfedale's , space etc i am sure others in the forum wud help yu out with this- also please read the previous posts- regs anirvan |

At this price range, the best option to get the maximum bang for your money would be pick up a used denon or Yamaha receiver and pick up speakers from serious Indian players like Lithos or acoustic portrait. There are quite a lot of perfectly working 5.1 or 6.1 receivers on the used market. Receivers are like mobile phones. Rich gadget freaks keep on upgrading to get the latest features. Make the best of this and you can get some really good stuff. Push the budget to 60k and you can do something like this. Used Yamaha or denon – 17k Lithos sub – 21k 22k- You may be able to pick up two pairs of bookshelf and a centre speaker kit from acoustic portrait. www.corrson.com This will rock and shake your house and don’t even think of comparing this to the tinny satalite/sub combo you get from mass-market manufacturers. With this budget if you go "imported-branded-hyped" you will land up with cheap bookshelf speakers using cheap drivers unable to handle loud transients and dynamic peaks. Another option is to go for a used reciever and a killer pair of floorstanders now and upgrading later. [Beitrag von square_wave am 28. Jul 2005, 13:57 bearbeitet] |

as far as the receiver goes- yu can also try new ones- yamahas are available around 25k and denon 26-27k for a 7.1 channel , 5.1 wud be cheaper-(delhi prices)and add speakers as square_wave has suggested- also some people add the sub later- in which case yu can easily invest on ur reciver and a good speaker set- 3rd option being add a indian sub like a sonodyne , yamaha , polk audio sub around 12-15k r anirvan [Beitrag von anirvan am 29. Hey, here is one more suggestion for the AVR....Man try Sonodyne AVR (its 5.1), to me it blows Yamaha RXV-350, 450 hands down and at 17k is a very good buy. You have to listen to it practically to appreciate its quality because its not an Onkyo or Denon whose reviews are available everywhere !!!!! |
