An excerpt from one of the user's of a PLINIUS CDP. A Plinius CD 101 arrived at our place in the week prior to Christmas. After a fair amount of listening it’s a keeper. We have been delighted with our Plinius amplification and it seemed logical to try the cdp as clearly Plinius understands power supplies and output stages. . Plinius have demonstrated their expertise in producing a topflight player first up. The sonics are excellent. We listen to a lot of acoustic music and the player has no trouble with symphonic material and difficult choral music (try Spem in Alium Thomas Tallis) forty part motet – not only is it an exquisite piece of music, it sorts out audio equipment. If the jazz swings so does the cdp. Rock music (the little we listened to) has a solid tight foundation. We found the bass tight, tuneful and rhythmic. It has the toe tapping quality. Mids were lovely valve like, no coloration at all. In comparison to other players we utilised (Krell KPS 20i/l, Audio Aero Capitole 24/192 & ML 390s) the Plinius was more enjoyable on virtually all occasions. I think it is probably due to the wonderful sense of rhythm and pace that the Plinius exhibits. The Plinius was equally at home in an all valve, dynamic speaker setup we utilise. The user interface takes time to get used to, due to its remote driven nature. It would be nice if the player started automatically on drawer closure as you often can by pressing “play” The read time is approx 10s,plenty of time to return to a chair and use the remote as a “remote”. This is a player that is worth trying to hear even if you are in the market for a “super” player. Kevin |
