I have a Marantz model 1072 amplifier with a problem. It gives a cracking noise from the speakers wich is very annoying. It sounds like the wires are not connected properly, but that is not the case. This happens about a minute after the amplifier is turned on. I first heard this when I used it as a part of my stereo. At the moment it is conected to my PC wich is brand new, and I still hear that noise. So last week I brought it to a repairshop where they couldn't find anything but I doubt if they really did their best. They cleaned the outside but I doubt if they opened it. Today I replaced the cable from my soundcard to the amp. I replaced my speakercables and I used different speakers. No change... So now I want to open the thing myself to see if I can do something. Since I know nothing about hi-fi equipment, does anyone have any idea what I should look for and what could cause my problem? I would really like to keep this amp because at the few moments when it does work okay, it gives a great sound. And it also has some sentimental value for me (I can't help it ). Thanks in advance, Jeroen |

There may be a contact problem with your amps power plug and the socket which it is connected. Put the plug in a different socket and see. |

I have removed my amp's powercable from my PC's socketbox and plugged it into the socket at the other end of the room. It seems to work perfectly now! Why oh why didn't I think of that??? Thanks a lot Myriad, you really made my day |
