Hi, Horn loaded speakers produce sound from a single voicecoil over the entire frequency, thus eliminating the need for multiple drivers - tweeter, midrange, woofer. How do they sound ? I have had the chance to audition this brand manufactured in Cochin called Rethm. They sound very different from your regular speakers. They had this incredible tone - very lush.Detailed but not clinically brutal. Stuff like string Quartets,Jazz Trios with a piano,Abida Parveen sounded absolutely marvellous. On well recorded accoustic kinda music, they had this ability to create the illusion of putting the performers right in front of you. However having said that they are absolutely unsuited to hard rock, techno and other bass heavy music. Beohorn is the other brand I know of, but have not heard. Cheers Krishnan |

a point to add, they usually are of higher efficiency. manek. horn loaded speakers need not be full frequency like the rethm that use mainly lowther drivers. Speakers like avant garde, klipsch, zingalli etc have horn loaded drivers for certain frequencies and the bass is driven by standard dynamic drivers so you have horn hybrids as well more often than not. There is no Better. it depends on what you intend to run it with. If you like Tubes or SE amps then these usually go along very well with them.. But there are peolpe who hate them and people who love them and people who are indifferent to them...you need to find out which one of these people you are only by listening to them ! |
