Tubes making comeback into Mainstream ? New Philips tube Mini system

hello all,

my first post in the forum.

though have been lurking here for quite long. (Got to say, guessing my way thru the registration process in German was a novel experience)

have found the tube related discussions particularly interesting, as I myself have not had exposure to the tube sound, but am very keen to experience it.

anyways, came across this new product from philips while googling for tube related stuff.

system uses a tube pre-amp and a Class D power section. so tube sound with high efficiency power, it would seem at first sight.

anyone has any idea if its available in india as yet ?

Is this a sign of tubes making a comeback into mainstream applications once more ?

apparently, the limited reviews / opinions seem to suggest that it is not "high fidelity" per se, though build quality / materials employed seem to be quite okay.

point is, does a product like this signal a comeback for tubes ??

Wow! Tubes in a Mass market cd/dvd system. This is getting quite interesting.

Looks like philips are trying very hard to sell their equipment. The standard fare just won't do anymore for some of their customers or they are trying to grab some in the higher bracket with toobs, ribbons, gold plated terminals ! Wow ! What next ?

So if philips buys all those nice toobs, what's left for the rest of us ? :-)

Seriosly, I think its great for tubes and what they stand for, which is music rather than just sound.

Does it have that Red LED below the tube to make it appear brighter ?
