surrealistix, looks like you have been busy!! ![]() one suggestion - put a rug in front of each speaker so that less sound bounces off the marble floor (these sound waves have the tendency to smear the overall sound you hear at your chair). |

Hi Surrealistix, Nice effort in creating your room. I too have made myself a listening den { Lucky me ... entire room to myself ![]() My room started out as Hard and very reverberant. I used Dupont's 2 inch medium density Fiberglass ( easily available and not too expensive at all.. about Rs 2K per large roll enough for your entire room )) to create my own sound absorbers, built as panels, flush in the wall. The Key requirement was that the 2 inch fibre wool have a 2 inch air gap behind it, before the wall. That was nicely met, because, my wall was recessed by about 4 inches, by beams and columns. I am posting this, because I see Exactly that feature in the 1st Pic of yr room ... Right Hand side extreme. You have a horizontal beam and a wall recessed by 2 to 4 inches. You can use this for a flush mounted sound absorber, and your wife too will find it very nice. ![]() ![]() The Carpet on the floor, will help ... a little bit, ONLY at the Upper Mid and High frequencies. ( carpets do not absorb bass by any significant degree.... its a mis-conception. they will Not smoothen out the bass response in your room. ![]() The best way to locate the carpet would be to place it at a first reflection point, of the floor. To find this, sit in your listening chair at its intended position. Place a mirror on the floor, and have it moved, till you can see the image of each of yr speakers in the mirror on the floor, from your chair. ( This position maybe somewhat different from where you imagine ! ![]() Place the carpet(s) or panels at these positions. At any other position, they will not do much. In a small room, you may not even find a first reflection point on the floor. In such a case, the carpet will serve little acoustic purpose... ![]() [Beitrag von Amp_Nut am 17. Hi Surreal Bhai, Have been thinking of congratulating you but something or the other has been disrupting me. In one word.....AMAZING!!! I am surprised at the amount of effort you have put in within such a short time period to get this room ready ![]() I can only wonder how good your system would be sounding now. Eagerly waiting for forum members from Mumbai to visit your place and share their feedback. I definitely need some tips from you ![]() If you have to single out one particular item in your room which made the most significant impact (acoustically) to the sonics in your room, what would it be (not considering electronics or the speakers, just the acoustic related items like Carpet, Sofa, Traps, Panels etc...) ? I ask this because often there are one or two components which majorly affect the room acoustics in a room (good or bad) and identifying it can make life simpler. E.g, In my room, I know one particular corner which if treated would solve most of the bass related problems at my listening position... So, did you encounter something like that where adding one particular trap at the corner or placing a acoustic panel or even adding a curtain to your back wall made a huge difference ?? Hi Abhi Pani, While building and placing the traps, I noticed the biggest difference with the Ceiling Panel. I have a floating ceiling panel which is about 6 inches below the ceiling and is made of 6 inches of Glasswool. Last week when I switched on my stereo after I came back from work and started listening to music, I realised that the bass was sounding much deeper. I couldn't figure out what had changed and wasn't sure if I liked the sound either. After a couple of songs, I realised that my maid had moved the left and right panels much closer to the speakers. So, it was absorbing more mids and highs than it should - resulting in the bass sounding more prominent! When I have time, I will probably do a thorough analsysis of my room using RoomEQ, both time and frequency domain analysis. It will be interesting to compare the results before and after placing all these panels. |
