Sorry about the trouble caused to the forum members. Basically I am having a tough time trying to post this image, which I found interesting. http://www.weblogima...20593&sid=xGS95ZFxI2 Hope this time it comes out well. This is the image of a Rs.1,00,000/- + a pair stereo speakers Lithos is going to bring out. Rajiv D'souza sent these photographs to me inviting comments about the looks. I took his permission to post the picture on this forum. As you can see it is a D' Appolito (MTM) speaker with a subwoofer. There are going to be separate, bandpass subwoofers for the left & right channels. The drivers are supposed to be high-end ones. Comments about the forum members on the looks and the concept are invited. |

Is that an aperiodic vent for the subwoofer?... assuming that the sub is an active one?.. and the mids look like aluminium cones..any idea on the make of the drivers... Lots of such designs floating around the web these days.. Would be interested in how he has decoupled the mids and highs from the bass cabinet...is the mids/highs stand connected to the bass cabinet? Also can you please post the specs. [Beitrag von Savyasaachi am 11. Nov 2006, 12:29 bearbeitet] |

looks prettty similiar to ascendo systems designs. do you have any idea of the specs ? would assume this is a passive setup but if the bass and mid/high have been separated the amplifier rating required would be interesting to know. looks very good so if the sound vs price thing is done well may find a good market |

I do not know the detailed specifications (guess I have to wait till December), but know the following: 1.) The drivers are from Tympany, U.S., and employ noise-cancellation technology. 2.) The bass-modules are not connected to the main-speakers in any way, though they look as if connected. 3.) The bass-modules employ 8" drivers. 4.) The bass modules are passive, and run on a separate 200 Watt R.M.S. dedicated amplifier. |

One feedback on the outboard amp. This is one area where he might find issues with customers. Ideally people wouldn’t want one more black box sitting in their rack for the subwoofer. Issues like finding space for one more shelf, extra wire runs and other issues will crop up. Best would be having some nice internal plate amps driving them. [Beitrag von square_wave am 13. ok..thanks for the above. is it "recommended" to use only that or is this designed for use with other amps as well ? if the amp has options like phase control and gain then of course it may be preferred |

I guess you can use the L / R bass modules shown here with any sufficiently powerful amplifier with a gain-control. As far as the phase is concerned, none of the Lithos subwoofers / bass modules feature phase controls. They are all passive, purely acoustic solutions, where phase switching between 0 & 180 degrees is possible only by swapping the cables. These also happen to be stereo subwoofers, where summing of the L & R channels is not envisaged, even when the two drivers are lodged in the same enclosure, and Lithos design philosophy has been against such summing (Lithos says that summing leads to distortion). Do you believe that the phase matters in subwoofer bass? If so, can you please explain why? Also, can you please provide some information on Ascendo Systems? |

ascendo http://www.ascendo.de/english/frameSW.htm I found phase to be quite important in subs which are not placed in alignment to the mid/high. i use a solo sub and the ideal phase for the best soundas per the placement of sub I have is around 90 degrees. but yer, phase control is not the most importnat if you have the option of changing the sub position for the best sound regarding summing, I have always preferred suns with a high level input rather than a low level..that way the amplifier output and phase change is tha same as what the speaker gets. if you take a L/R output from a pre, you do not get the same signal as the speaker gets as no matter how transparent most amplifiers |
