Kann ich nix zu sagen.
Aktuell wird aber am Classic-Rock-Stammtisch (# 12796) darüber gefachsimpelt. (klick) und da heisst es zur SHM-SACD und zur Version im Complete Studio Recordings Boxset "...Also, sofern da niemand lügt, handelt es sich um dieselben Mastertapes und dasselbe Flat-Mastering das verwendet wurde. Warum soll da die SHM-SACD anders klingen? ..."

Yepp, sie ist es! Aber erwarte keinen Klangsprung, dazu ist das (fast) Flat Mastering aus dem "Complete" Boxset schon sehr gut.

This is a 10 CD deluxe box set featuring all eight Roxy Music studio albums and every single they released. The audio has been flat-transfered from the original master recordings – so it sounds as the band intended it to.

Bezüglich der Rick Wakeman Deluxe Edition (siehe oben)

Klanglich ist nur "Six Wives..." ein Gewinn, wo die milde Komprimierung im Vgl zur Original CD sogar gut tut. Das Klangbild wirkt nicht so flach.

Bei "Myths and Legends..." sieht es anders aus. Hier ist die Original CD (DR 10-13) immer noch am ausgewogensten was Transparenz und Klangfülle betrifft. Die Chöre klingen auf dem Remaster (DR 8-12) etwas zu gepresst.

VAN HALEN reinvented the sound of hard rock in 1978 with its influential and wildly successful eponymous debut album and then achieved ever greater success six years later with 1984. Both albums would define a generation while selling more than 10 million copies each in the U.S. alone to earn diamond-certification from the RIAA. The band recently went back to the original analog tapes and remastered both of these landmark albums — "Van Halen" and "1984" — which are now also set for release on March 31, 2015 through Warner Bros. Records.

Considered one of the greatest debut albums in rock history, "Van Halen" took the music world by storm in 1978 with an 11-song manifesto that features some of rock radio's most played songs of all time and scorching concert staples like "Runnin' With The Devil", "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love", "Jamie's Cryin'", the band's signature cover of THE KINKS' "You Really Got Me", and Eddie Van Halen's finger-tapping tour de force, "Eruption". Six years and five albums later, VAN HALEN had become one of the biggest bands in the world around the release of "1984", which includes a number of the band's most legendary songs such as the #1 hit "Jump", "Panama" and "Hot For Teacher".

Mastering engineer Chris Bellman, who remastered the original albums at Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios, was enlisted for these new versions. In order to produce the original sound the band intended, Bellman cut straight from the quarter-inch tapes for CD; for 180-gram vinyl; and for the digital versions. Newly mastered versions of "Diver Down", "Women And Children First", "Van Halen II" and "Fair Warning" are now being cut (for CD, for vinyl, and for digital) for release later in spring.

Kann gut Vinyl schneiden, aber die 2000er Van Halen Remaster hat er durchgängig verbockt!

Auf HDTracks gibt es die Van Halen Remaster nicht mehr. Erste Wahl ab Van Halen II die Rhino LPs, cut by Bellman. Abwarten was kommt...... die Original CDs sind zwar besser als die erste Remaster-Serie, aber nicht so gut wie Rhino LPs.

Nahezu ausverkauft..... das treibt die Preise bei ebay schön nach oben

Naja, in den alten Zeiten, als die DDR noch mit Briefmarken für Sammler Devisen an Land ziehen wollte, gab es zu jedem Satz einen Wert, der in ganz geringer Auflage erschien und deswegen "wertvoll" war. Die Sammler - insbesondere die in der BRD, die D komplett sammelten - mussten dafür dann tief in die Tasche greifen, um den Satz auch vollständig zu haben.

Daran erinnert mich dieser Marketing-Bullshit, der hier veranstaltet wird. Das Album erscheint ab Ende des Monats in mindestens fünf Versionen. Warum es gerade die unsinnigste von allen (wegen der Redundanzen) sein soll, erschliesst sich mir nicht.

Mit einer Wertsteigerung ist wohl auch nicht zu rechnen, denn wahrscheinlich wird über diese Neuerscheinung in Herbst niemand mehr reden. So wie das bei dem flügellahmen Raben ja auch der Fall war. Und genau danach hören sich die Hörproben an, die jetzt schon durchs Netz geistern, um den Hype auch ordentlich anzuheizen...

Mr. Wilson täte mE besser daran, das zu tun, was er unzweifelhaft gut kann- Nämlich die Alben von guten Musikern (mehrkanalig) zu verschönern.

Eine Woche vor dem Erscheinen der formidablen Steven Wilson Deluxe Edition "Hand Cannot Erase", erscheint das Led Zeppelin Album "Physical Graffiti" als Super Deluxe-Ausgabe. Klanglich die beste Ausgabe (!)... ein guter Abschluss. Die Bonus Tracks sind nicht der Rede wert.

Im Laufe des Jahres erscheinen dann noch "Presence" und "In Through The Out Door" als Super Deluxe... aber auch die schwächsten Led Zep Alben .

wenn es die Edsel-Remaster sind, dann lass lieber die Finger weg! Das Phil Kinrade-Mastering klingt schlechter als die Rhino-Remaster und die waren schon nix besonderes. Erste Wahl..... beim Debüt die MFSL.... bei allen anderen die Original CDs! Die MFSL Pretenders II und Learning to Crawl klingen keinen Deut besser als die Japan Erstpressungen!

Gegen die Sony Mastersound macht die MFSL eine gute Figur. Nicht ganz so ausgewogener Midrange wie die
Sony Gold CD, aber dafür (typisch MFSL-House-Sound) etwas spritziger. Die Höhen klingen etwas feiner und der
Bass ist etwas konturierter. Je nach Hörpräferenz mag man die Sony oder MFSL bevorzugen.
Einen eindeutigen Gewinner gibt es nicht. IMO

Atlantic Records has announced the release of a monstrous YES box that explores seven of their live shows from their 1972 World Tour. The new Box, called Progeny: Seven Shows From Seventy-Two, is a huge 14 CD box that will find unreleased music surprises in the discs. The shows within this Box are shows that led up to the ones recorded and heard on Yessongs (1973). Progeny: Seven Shows From Seventy-Two is expected for release on May 19. as is the 2 CD Highlights From Seventy-Two. Progeny features new remastering to create the best experience that can be had from listening to these performances of classic songs from the time when those songs were new. Each show is contained in its own fold-out digipak.



On April 27, the UK location of Universal will release The Island Years 1967-1974 as a 9 CD Box. The box is expected to contain all albums by Spooky Tooth that released under Island Records, including Supernatural Fairy Tales. In addition to Supernatural Fairy Tales, Tobacco Road, Spooky Two, Ceremony, The Last Puff, You Broke My Heart So I Busted Your Jaw, Witness, and The Mirror, there will be Live In Oldenburg 1973, a full live set. In addition, there are selected rare and previously unreleased bonus cuts. There will also be a magnificent booklet tucked into the solid, lidded cardboard box.

Das Set soll Andy Pearce remastert haben, was mich aber zweifeln lässt.... einziger Hinweis "mastered at Abbey Road"

Gerade Hörcheck der ersten drei Alben über die KEF Monitore im Vgl zu den Original CDs und soweit vorhanden LP-Rips.

Die ersten drei Alben klingen besser als die Original CDs, teils um Nuancen, teils erheblich besser. Die Original CDs klingen dunkler und lassen das eine oder andere Detail im Hintergrund treten. Das gilt for allem für das Debüt mit einem Dynamikumfang von DR10-15.

Beim zweiten Album "Makin' Magic" gibt es eine leichte Dynamikdelle, aber immerhin noch DR9-11 gegenüber dem Original mit DR10-13. Im Gegensatz zur Original CD ist aber hier das "Anzählen... one, two, three" auf Statesboro Blues enthalten. Klanglich ziehe ich hier die Original Polydor LP vor, die einen Tick wärmer klingt.

Das Nachfolgealbum "Putting It Straight" ist klanglich auf dem Niveau der Original LP und lässt meine Japan CD alt aussehen. Die restlichen werde ich mir am WE zu Gemüte führen. Wer Pat Travers mag, kann hier bedenkenlos zugreifen... das 4 CD Set (8 Alben) gibt's für 18 Euronen.

Sicherheitshalber nochmals Andy Pearce kontaktiert.... die Credits im Boxset sind falsch und beziehen sich evtl auf das Originalmastering.

Die Pat Travers Box wurde @Wired Masters in London remastert.

On April 21, Blackheart Records will release a “33 1/3 Anniversary” Deluxe Edition of I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll, the 1981 classic by Joan Jett, in celebration of over thirty years of existence. The Deluxe set will be available in both CD Deluxe, and a vinyl LP Deluxe Edition.
This is the album that delivered the anthemic title track, “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll”, and “Crimson And Clover”, as well as other cover tracks, and originals.
I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll – 33 1/3 Anniversary Edition is expected to contain additional tracks as a bonus to the original release. The reissue will feature newly remastered audio.

Heissa, das waren damals (1979) ganz neue Töne, die an die Ohren drangen. Wer kannte schon Ska? Und live erst, denn die Kapelle machten eine ausgedehnte Tour und trieb die Zuhörer in die Toberei - damals habe ich erstmals Bekanntschaft mit dem Pogen gemacht... - und hätte gerne darauf verzichtet.

Gerade die Sticky Fingers ist von den 2009er-Versionen auch besonders schlecht gelungen. Ist es denn schon sicher, dass die SUPER DELUXE EDITION BOXSET dass 2009 Remaster enthalten wird?

Die ersten drei Grace Jones Alben "Portfolio", "Fame" und "Muse" kommen als Box Set "the Disco Years" mit einer Bonus Vinylplatte mit den Original Maxiversionen, bei der CD Box sind die Tracks auf den jeweiligen CDs verteilt. Kommt sowohl als CD wie auch als Vinylbox

Just received approval from the Doors management on the mastering for this so I can talk about it a bit.

First release since 1973 of the original Quad Doors mixes. Stereo section will have a new mastering of the original stereophonic mixes.

I mastered both the stereo version and the quadraphonic version with Stephen Marsh and it was really a blast. Always an honor to work on the Doors, their office is always helpful, enthusiastic and eager to get it done and released. That is much appreciated, believe me.

They even suggested we take some photos of the mastering session, in fact, encouraged it. So that's unique but thanks to photographer Elton Evans, accomplished. Pics to come.

A visit to the Doors' Vault is always an adventure, freezing in there (I wore two jackets and an overcoat) but we had permission to recompile the 1973 BEST OF track listing from all original first generation tapes, both Quad and stereo so I pulled them all while Kenny (from the Doors office) froze beside me.

During mastering, I concentrated on the stereo stuff first, going not in order, but from non-Dolby titles to Dolby A titles. Stephen Marsh is an expert in making 50 year old Dolby tapes play back correctly and we got everything transferred to perfection before lunch (having done my actual mastering homework the week before). The QUAD reels we also did (first time) mainly because we couldn't send the analog tapes to Gus, they had to stay at the studio so we gladly did the four channel transfers from analog to high-rez.

I think that those of you who are used to the modern 5.1 surround versions of these songs will really dig the Paul Rothchild 1973 Quad attempts. And of course the stereo Bruce Botnick mixes were handled with a light mastering touch, not changing the sonic signature of the songs but simply directly the ears (or suggesting to them) a certain course for the brain to take during each song. That was fun, picking one or two songs from each album without the pressure of having to do the entire album.. I never tire of listening to The Doors!
