Its been more than a couple of days now...My NAD C325BEE had to wait for 5 long months to find a suitable match...PSB Image B25s have arrived.

I'm going through a lot of 'Out of the Box' blues right now .
Initially started off with NAD set to Tone Defeat-ON, Soft Clipping-OFF, Volume levels ranging between 10'o clock to 12'o clock positions. Speakers were bright and detailed, Bass started to boom with lot of vibrations reflecting off the tiles flooring and walls...just could not take it .

Speakers are placed on plastic fiber stands of only 18 inches in height which probably is adding to the cause. Speaker cables too are hardly 0.5mm thick and interconnects are nothing special to write about. So after a few trials, I have now settled down to the volume level-9'o clock, Tone Defeat-OFF, Bass & Treble-10'o clock positions (NAD says that if Bass & Treble are left at 12'o clock position, then its equivalent to Tone Defeat switched ON). I put a carpet of decent size (extends up to my listening position) on the floor in front of the speakers and now at lower volume levels...Sound's improving as the speakers have done for about 20 hrs. Typically how many playing hours does it take for the B25s to break-in?

Speakers placement I have done is:
Distance between the Speakers - 7.5 feet
Both Speakers are about 20 cm from the wall behind, Right speaker is 40 cm and the Left Speaker is 30 cm from the side walls. Listening position varies between 8-9 feet equidistant from the speakers.

I need suggestions for speaker cables and interconnects around 5 K range. Any brands which would complement my NAD/PSB setup In the mean time I'm on a look out for a pair of speaker stands as well (considering DIY - neono has given some useful tips on the same).

Amidst all this, I'm still enjoying the music at low volumes as I get to LISTEN only during nights for about 3-4 hrs before sleep .

Piper has arrived at the gates

Arrey Voodoo Sir,
Why dont you try out some Voodoo first...you may not require any cables at all..

Okay buddy...CONGRATS!!!!!!!
Regarding the break-in, yes they do require atleast 40-50 hours of break-in. The speakers you said are around 18-20 inches from the ground....thats a bit too low
You would need to place them atleast 24-26 inches from the ground and you will find a immediate difference in bass. The boom should be substantially reduced. For the mids and the highs, you need to have patience...for the speakers to break-in. BTW I do have a burn-in CD, let me know if you want to try them.

Congrats Child You got your toy
Keep playing with it for some time, later you can try all the tweaks. Let it do 50-100hrs.

IIly you try for good rigid stands. Take DIY way, it'll be inexpensive.

Let the burn-in happen naturally, keep playing your music.

congrats vodoo! it will take your ears some more hours to break in keep listening! those speakers do have a generous helping of bass when i last heard them so good stands and positioning will be essential. have fun experimenting!

i guess we know where the next meet is gonna be in a month or so

Never knew there was a CD for burn-in

Voodoo bhai,
Its just a normal CD with some tones recorded on it. The tones contain signals throughout the frequency band so your speakers gets an workout on a wide range of frequency and burns-in faster..

First thing you need is stands…..Believe me, that plastic / fiber thing is really screwing the sound. You will know once you get a decent stand. I guess you are in Bangalore, Get in touch with Murthy and get an entry level stand made. It’ll cost around 3 / 5 k. That is enough for now. I have a friend who is using a similar stand for her dynaudio audience 42 and they sound just fine. No point in investing in a 10 / 15k stand for s speaker costing 32k.Regarding the cables, I have sent you a PM.

Buy more music..you are going to look at music so much different now.

Cables-Shables et all details can be worried of when you genuinely feel there is a need rather than due to the hype created .

Yes a decent stand should get you started. try to see what PSB recommends as not all bookehsleves need a solid heavy stand..some recommend a hollow frame

Arj...you should probably see my credit card bill
I've restricted myself nowadays to visit music stores twice a month, earlier almost every weekend (thanks to one of my friend luring me to the addiction) and when the credit card bill arrived...
Although I haven't regretted anything bought so far

I searched in Google and this is what I've found..

" PSB SP-25i Speaker Stands (25 inch fixed, black) - $99/pair."

Stereophile says:
"I set the B25s on my trusty Celestion Si stands, which are loaded with sand and lead shot. (PSB makes its own dedicated stand, the SP-25i, for $99/pair.)"

Another guy wrote..."The SP-25 Speaker Stands (new product from PSB) worked very well with these speakers, and I would recommend them ($89/pair) if you get this package. They are made entirely of wood, and are very easy to assemble. They have a small front profile, which keeps reflection from the monitors low."

PSB website doesn't have any info related to these stands and I don't know if they make any recommendations.

square_wave,
I had met Murthy around 3-4 months back and did talk about getting the stands made from him. Also remember him saying that the most basic stands he does would cost at least 8K. Since I had not bought the speakers at that time, he said to come back later with proper requirement specifications

Oh…I didn’t know that. He always over-engineer his stuff and could cost a bit. Do one thing, I think Prithvi of absolute phase or even Venky of reference point in Indranagar (phone- 9448488246) could be able to source you something basic and cheaper . My friend got the basic stand for around 3.5k from Mumabai.
Let me know about the cables ok. Did you get my pm ?

I second Arj - that's your best investment. After all that's what you bought the system for.

Hi buddy,

Was quite busy, couldn't check the forum for a while now. Sound's improved, though I feel there is a potential to sound well beyond whatever I'm getting now. Have not yet fixed the slabs, should find some time to check them this weekend.
