Hi All,

Thanks a lot for all replies to my earlier thread: "Help me build my first Hi-Fi music system'

I am still undecided. Couple of days back I auditioned Acoustic Image (Pune) 's Mezzo Luxury speakers. Massive speaker with tight, dynamic sound very close to live performance. (Price Rs 48000).

Need some more inputs on this brand.

Regards

I have also heard them, and liked them quite a bit.

Cheers

avmax liked them too. Their sound is more natural, rather than showy. But, tell me, are you sure you won't be travelling? Big speakers are expensive to move about.

Yes, this is one of my concerns regarding this model.
Apart from massive size, I am also concerned about workmanship.

But as far as faithful music reporduction is concerned these speakers outperforms any other brand it the given price range.

They're designed by a gentleman called Mickey Registrar. A very senior person who has worked in the UK with the likes of KEF and Wharfedale.

The Poona Music Society's website (http://www.poonamusicsociety.com/html/inner.asp?linkid=7) describes him as a noted acoustic specialist who had in the past worked with acoustic consulting firms, that had done work at the Royal Albert Hall and the Avery Fisher hall among others.

I have known Micky since late 70's, though not in contact for a while. He was working at ISWP before being purged from Tata Steel where he was seen as a Russy Mody groupie. .

In the 70's Micky was building speakers with Philips/Bolton drivers for the local set. He always had big ideas. TT's, amps etc but nothing practical. I would not describe him as anything outstanding. He was struck in a particular groove so typical of Baba's.

Please don’t misunderstand me. I admire him for thinking of such stuff back in the days when average earning was less then what you guys spend on an evening out nowadays.

But do realise that he is struck in the I-know-best line of thinking. Technology has bypassed him. Describing him as a high-end manufacturer is stretching things a bit, though I applaud him for leading a happy life post-retirement building speaker and finally getting the PR right. As for KEF etc, I will take things with a pinch of salt.

Micky moved in to Pune in late 90's. Do meet him for a chit-chat. You will love it provided he meets you.

Lets put it this way. Back in the days he made quite acceptable party speakers. I would not want them now.

I hope he now has access to better components, and more importantly has leant how to use some excellent simulation tools available nowadays. I also hope he now has a better carpenter.

He was the quintessential 70’s guy. If today I were in the market for speakers, I would look at some very talented designers/builder who are now in India.

Having said that I would support the ole’ warrior at this stage. He is an excellent repository of various esoteric knowledge.

Now that I read my posts above, they appear to be downright condescending.

I last heard his speakers 10 years ago. He was good back then. I am sure he is even better now. At least he is doing something he always loved and dreamt about.

Please listen to his speakers and make your own judgment.

Hi,

I've known Mickey Registrar for over 10 years now. And have seen the development of his speakers over those years.

His products now are excellent. Do go and listen to them.

As anyone with so many years behind him, he has the perogative to voice his opinions. Bear with him on that, as he is a true music lover.

Viren.
