Hii all,
I wanna buy on pair of bookself speakers ( my budget Rs. 15K max).I'd use a Pioneer int amp ( old one model A20 ) ( 6 ohms to 16 ohms). Usually I listen to old hindi vinyls via Pioneer turntable ( model X-99 ) with Shure Cartidge and one dedicated CDP ( BPL old one ). Now I listen with Sonodyne 8 ohms speakers. My preference is with deep bass.

So plz suggest me good pair of bookself which fits in my pocket and VFM. I have a preference for Wharfedale 9.2. But all other suggestions are most welcome. The speaker connector output from Pioneer amp are mannual as are available old amps i.e open wire. But as far my knowledge goes input connectors of Wherfedale or other good quality speakers are via jack connectors. Can it be a problem ?
In future I have plans to shift to Denon entry level amps.

I'm based in Kolkata and know the dealers as well. I'm a newbie also.

I cant think of anythng better than wharfedale at that price.

unless you are able to buy a good one from a local manufacturer at that price (Corrson/lyrita et al), I agree with manek.

Wharfadale - costing 12 k approx. is a good choice. I am using an older model, and I am happy with the performance.

Any idea how much will the Diamond 8.1 or 8.2 will cost ???

I think 8.1 will cost around 8.5 k after discount. MRP is 9.5 k.

9.2 - MRP 12.5 k after discount it is around 11.5 k.

However, please check it out from a local dealer. Minimum 10% discount. Maximum - depends on your bargaining power.

you could also check out monitor audio bronze b2 round 17k and mordaunt short 902i round 15k. diamond 9.1 sounded better than 9.2.

Thanx a lot guys. Any idea whether connectivity between mannual wire speaker output of my old Amp and input via jack in new age speakers could create a problem ?

Mordaunt Short's 902i is the current talk of the 'budget standmount' segment. Not heard them but going by the older MS bookshelves they weren't bad at all. Around 12K. Check it out!!

Yes, Even I have heard good reviews about the MS 902i.

Since this thread is already dealing with speakers, i thought i could also put in one of my queries.

For the fronts and center one should always consider the best which sounds good and which his pocket can handle. But what about surrounds how important are they. considering that they are used to output the effects present in the movie.

Do you think that there also one needs to consider the a good quality of speakers (902i costing 12K) or any low-end speaker (like sony's costing 1500 rs.) can be used.

If you can afford, its always good to have the best

Otherwise speaking, I have heard Aiwa Mini compo speakers doing the job of rears without any issues. All the ambience is created, you wont ever feel that you need to upgrade them...thats it

But yes, better options are Bipole and Dipole speakers which are supposed to give better ambience but costs more.

Basically you dont have the budget, dont worry, use your old speakers for rears...you are almost there.

Even i am considering the bipole speakers. I am considering the Rears from Sonodyne which cost 4.5K per spkr, but i have kept them for a later stage till that i was thinking of buying a center channel from sonodyne itself since i have the sonus 2605 and till i buy the surrounds i was thinking of attaching the speakers from my old BPL D200 model. but they drive at an impedance level of 4ohms do you think that will be a problem since all other speakers will be driving at 8 ohms and i have finalized on Marantz SR-4600 as the avr.

another point about the speakers is that they can handle less than 50 wpc (i think it is 35 wpc to be precise i will have to check the manuals again). will that be a problem of any sort.

regarding the center channel any other suggestion from you side is welcome.
